Niantic Updates Gigantamax System After Frustrating Weekend

Trainers,

After a weekend of frustrating experiences with Gigantamax battles, Niantic has reached out to share some changes that will be made ahead of Gigantamax Gengar debut on October 31st.

We’re so thankful that it appears Niantic have taken on the community feedback from the Gigantamax Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard battles that took place over the weekend. They’ve shared a series of adjustments that appear to make Gigantamax raids a much better experience.

Rewards

Niantic is introducing a reward of 25,000 Stardust for each completed Gigantamax Gengar encounter. This addition is designed to help players quickly recover the resources they invest into the Dynamax and Gigantamax systems, making participation feel more rewarding. The aim is to create a positive cycle, encouraging Trainers to engage more frequently in Gigantamax encounters, creating continued interest and involvement.

This could earn you a whopping 37.5k stardust per successful Gigantamax battle, which could mean huge gains during an event!

Catch Rate

Niantic is increasing the catch rate for Gigantamax Gengar to reflect the resources players are putting into these battles and the rewards they deserve for completing such a challenging feat. The previous catch rate didn’t quite align with the intended experience, so this adjustment aims to make the reward more satisfying. Niantic will continue to monitor catch rates across other Gigantamax encounters to ensure a consistently rewarding experience.

Reduced difficulty

Niantic is making a slight adjustment to the difficulty level of the Gigantamax Gengar encounter, aiming to make it a bit more approachable than other Gigantamax battles have been so far. We’ve talked about how the battles have been simply too difficult for lots of communities, so this is a huge step in the right direction!

While Gigantamax encounters are intended to be a significant challenge in Pokémon GO, Niantic wants to ensure that players have a fair chance to defeat Gengar. Trainers will still need to strategise, coordinate with their group, and enter the battle with a degree of preparation, but this tuning should make the encounter a bit easier, encouraging a broader range of players to participate in Gigantamax encounters.

There aren’t any numbers released on the estimated difficulty of Gigantamax Gengar just yet, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled and you’ll be the first to know when there are!

Niantic have let us know that they will continue to listen to feedback and may make some more adjustments as Gigatamax battles continue to be featured within the game. There are, of course, lots of other suggestions that Trainers have made to make the Gigantimax/Dynamax experience more playable. Hopefully we can see some more tweaks in the future.

It’ll be interesting to see the Gigantamax Gengar raids and how much of a difference these changes will make to the community.

As we’ve said, it is great news that Niantic are taking on board our feedback. As you play throughout the coming weeks we’d love to hear from you about your experiences, continuing feedback makes Pokémon GO better.
