Good day, Pokémon trainers! Every year The Pokémon Company Group celebrates Pokémon Day on February 27th, as this was the original release date of Pokémon Red and Green in Japan. Usually, us international fans are greeted with a livestream featuring a whole host of new Pokémon content each year.
However, this year is a bit special as it’s the 30th anniversy for the Pokémon franchise! As such, there will be multiple events going on. Let’s take a look at all we can look forwards to:
Starting with what is standard at this point every year, a livestream will be hosted starring news regarding upcoming Pokémon projects from 6:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. GMT / 3:00 p.m. CET on Feb. 27, 2026, on the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch channels.
Tune in to find out what you can expect out of Pokémon this year!
Rather surprisingly, on Pokémon Day, The Pokémon Company group will be releasing modern ports for the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen for the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2 lineup of consoles. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are 2004 remakes of the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green video games originally released in 1996. These modern ports will be available as digital downloads on Nintendo’s modern systems.
Something more relevant to us playing GO, The Pokémon Company announced earlier that there will be a year-long Pokémon GO AR Photography campaign with a special research available. You can read more about that here.
Pokémon’s first ever LEGO set will be debuting on February 27th for fans of both franchises to purchase. The first three sets see five fan-favorite Pokémon — Pikachu, Eevee, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise — recreated in LEGO brick form.
A hearty congratulations to Pokémon for its 30th birthday! Certainly a lot to celebrate with this year!
