Pokémon GO joins Pokémon Championship Series for the first time in 2022

Posted in

Pokémon GO is going officially competitive, with Pokémon.com braking the news: Pokémon GO Championship Series will be taking place for the first time in 2022!

During the first year of play, Pokémon GO will be featured at select events, including Regional and International Championships, allowing the best Trainers to earn an invitation to the yearly Pokémon World Championships.

The format for the 2022 season Pokémon GO Championship Series will be Great League, as expected.

How to play in the Pokémon GO Championship events

1. Achieve Legion Rank in GBL S9 or S10

In order to participate in the in-person tournaments, you will need to have a high enough placement in Pokémon GO’s Season 9 or Season 10. This means achieving the Legend Rank in that particular Season.

2. Play and Win at Pokémon GO Tournaments

Pokémon GO will be featured at select events, including Regional and International Championships. Top Pokémon GO players at these events will win an invitation to the 2022 Pokémon World Championships.

Competitor slots at these Pokémon GO tournaments will be managed via a two-phase registration window.

  • Early Registration: Players who achieved the top ranks in a given Pokémon GO Battle League season will be rewarded with the ability to register for certain events before anyone else in a short early-registration window.
  • Open Registration: Once the early window closes, all remaining spots will be made available for players of any rank to register.

You can find the list of regional tournaments below.

When do registrations open?

Online registration for the earliest events will open in February. Registration for these events is handled by the Tournament Organizer, an entry fee may be charged at their discretion, and events may sell out.

To register for Pokémon GO Championship Series events, all competitors will need to link their Pokémon GO account to a Pokémon Trainer Club account, have a Play! Pokémon Player ID, and be opted in to the Play! Terms of Use.
