Trainers, we want to raise concern about an issue that is affecting the Pokémon GO Plus family of devices, including GO Plus and GO Plus+. A handful of Trainers have reported that their auto catchers are not catching Pokémon if the game is not in focus, with reports stating that the issue is caused by the latest 0.331.0 update.
A Trainer that goes under the name of “SirWobblyOfSausage” (we are not joking, that’s their reddit username), reached out to us asking if we could post about this issue, and hopefully, try to get Niantic’s attention. Here’s the issue, as described and mostly confirmed by community feedback:
After updating from version 0.329.2 to 0.331.0, all Go Plus devices stop working when the game is not in focus. As soon as you switch tasks or lock the screen, the device disconnects within a minute. When you reopen the game, it starts working again.
Our reader also mentioned that they took the following steps:
- Checked background app usage settings
- Disabled battery optimization
- Turned off power-saving mode
- Disabled “Do Not Disturb”
- Verified notifications settings
- Reset all my devices
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the game
- Reset my phone twice
- Reverted my phone from Android 15 to Android 14
- Bought a new Go Plus+ device
Despite all of these steps, the issue still persisted, both on a Samsung Flip 5 and their partner’s Pixel Pro 9 XL.
If you own a GO Plus, or a GO Plus+, be prepared to have problems once you update to 0.311.0. Niantic has forced the latest update, so not much you can do but prepare. We’ll keep you updated.
