Trainers around the world are reporting a significant change in Pokémon GO spawn behavior, with local spawn points either disappearing, moving, or being replaced altogether. Reports suggest this may be part of a global spawn-point refresh affecting how and where Pokémon appear.
We asked our audience X (Twitter) and confirmed our suspicions in this Reddit thread, and the issue is not in imaginary, something is really off with the spawns! Here’s what we are seeing and what others have reported.
Trainers Notice Fewer Spawns at Home, but Not Everywhere, and not Everyone
The majority of the reports indicate that there has been a somewhat large reduction in wild spawns around some homes and workplaces. Reports range from reduced to completely removed spawns, but most are (fortunately) on the reduced side, at least by what we are getting from our readers and Reddit comments.
The general consensus is that spawns have gone down from 7-10 to 3-4 Pokémon for most Trainers that bothered to leave a comment or reply. We do have to say that this matches our experience, although not quite.
Fortunately, not all reports are negative! Some Trainers reported they’re seeing increased spawn diversity or new spawn points closer to their locations:
Unusual Pokémon and New Wild Sightings
In addition to changes in spawn point frequency and placement, some players reported wild Pokémon species not commonly seen in their local areas, such as:
- Pyroar and Alolan Ninetales
- Magikarp, Sawk, Magneton, Drillbur
- Houndstone
- More Helioptile sightings
These unexpected species suggest the update could be altering not only where Pokémon spawn, but what Pokémon are appearing in the wild.
Spawn Point Updates and What Players Have Seen Before
Niantic/Scopely has not formally confirmed this spawn reshuffle or issued an announcement explaining the changes. Historically, Pokémon GO undergoes periodic spawn-point migrations that adjust locations and densities to balance gameplay or reflect updated map data, and these are often discovered first by players rather than through official channels.
What we know for sure is that there was a similar spawn update that happened in January 2025 around the same date. At the time, we were not aware that Niantic/Scopely plans to do these every year, but it seems like an emerging pattern now. The January 2025 update was focused on:
- Different Pokémon will appear in even more places than before
- In densely populated areas, this could mean that you’ll see the same numbers of Pokémon as before, but they will be spread out more evenly
- You may also see Pokémon appear in different locations than before
- For Trainers in rural or rapidly expanding areas, this may also increase the number of Pokémon that appear overall
Given the volume of player reports from multiple platforms, it’s likely this change is either a continuation of that yearly process, or maybe a new migration tied to the current event cycle.
We encourage you to explore nearby areas and report your findings on social media! You never know who’s watching.
