Pokémon GO updates item inventory UI and increases storage space

Pokémon GO’s item inventory is getting significantly better for Trainers updating to game version 0.257.0. The new updated inventory UI is available below:

How to get this UI? Update to latest version and click the toggle on the top right corner of the screen. The toggle changes between list and grid-style UI, making it possible to access the old list based UI on demand. Do note that it looks like this feature is gated behind a AB test, so not everyone may be able to access the feature even after updating.

Our thoughts? Absolutely great improvement, not much to say here. It has always been a bit cumbersome to scroll through the Pokémon GO inventory, and this change alleviates much of that pain.

What else is new? It looks like Niantic is increasing the item storage and Pokémon storage limits to these new values:

  • ✅ Max Pokémon storage increased to 6,200
  • ✅ Max Item storage increased to 5,200

Currently, only the Pokémon Storage increase has been confirmed by French Pokémon GO Twitter account, while the item storage increase is still pending official confirmation.

Is this connected to any other update? Over the past few months, Niantic has been making a series of Quality of Life updates to the game, including an update that made in-game animations significantly faster. We are currently in the Season of Mythical Wishes, and it looks like some of Trainers’ wishes are getting fulfilled.

A redditor named nostalgiaca did observe that there has always been at least one storage upgrade right before December Community Day. Here’s a list of historical storage upgrade dates right before December community day (credits to nostalgiaca):

  • 2018: November 21, 2018 (the same day as December community day announcement)
  • 2019: November 22, 2019 (two days after December community day announcement)
  • 2020: December 1, 2020 (two days prior to December community day announcement)
  • 2021: November 15, 2021 and December 16, 2021 (three days before December community day announcement)
  • 2022: ???

We are still waiting for the official confirmation on item storage, but it looks like Niantic did not forget about this tradition in 2022.
