This week in general Pokémon news we have an incredible new themed hotel in Japan, more information on when Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is coming and where, all the winners from the Pokémon World Championships 2026, the location for Worlds in 2027, plus all the changes for the upcoming 2027 Championships season, and 30th Celebration merch!
PokéBall Hotel
An adorable PokéBall Hotel has been announced in collaboration with Pokémon Sleep and Not a Hotel, with bookings being available from 15th September 2026. Not a Hotel offers a range of shared ownership of unusual holiday homes designed by architects and more, located across Japan. The new lets customers sleep inside a giant PokéBall in a forest setting in Hokkaido, Japan.

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu
During the PokémonXP panels over the World Championships weekend is was revealed that Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu will be coming to Disney+ in 2027, and a new teaser trailer was released! The Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu series is a stop motion animation collaboration between Pokémon and Aardman Animation, a UK based studio known for Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run and Flushed Away.
Pokémon World Championships 2027 Location
It has been announced that the Pokémon World Championships 2027 will take place from August 13th to August 15th 2027, in Singapore! This marks the fourth time that Worlds has taken place outside of the USA, having previously been hosted in Canada, the UK and Japan. PokémonXP was not announced for 2027, so it is not expected to take place.
Pokémon 2027 Championship Series Season Changes
Major changes are coming to the 2027 Championship Series Season!
The Latin America International Championships will take place in São Paulo, Brazil, in November 2026. London will host the Europe International Championships in February 2027. The North America International Championships will take place in Chicago, Illinois in June 2027.
Travel Award Tiebreaks
In previous Championship Series seasons, tiebreakers for final leader board placements were determined by Play! Points competitors had accumulated. Starting with the 2027 Europe International Championships, ties for all Travel Awards will be determined by finishing position at previous Regional and International Championship events.
Pokémon UNITE Championship Series
The Pokémon UNITE Championship Series will no longer be a part of the Championship Series in the 2027 season. There will be a standalone in-person Pokémon UNITE event in Japan, with paid travel for qualified teams. Additional details, including qualification and travel support information, will be announced at a later date on the Pokémon UNITE official site.

2027 Championship Series Age Division Update
Competitors in Championship Series events are separated into three age divisions: Junior, Senior, and Masters.
The age division that competitors participate in is set at the beginning of the tournament season based on that competitor’s year of birth, and it does not change over the course of that season. This allows competitors to compete against the same pool of opponents over the season.
During the 2027 Championship Series Season the age divisions are as follows:
- Junior Division: Competitors born 2015 or later
- Senior Division: Competitors born between 2011 and 2014, inclusive
- Masters Division: Competitors born 2010 or earlier
- Pokémon GO competitions are not separated by age divisions.
2027 Pokémon GO World Championships Update
Major changes are coming to the 2027 Pokémon GO World Championships. The tournament will feature 3-on-3 team play, with teams formed from the pool of qualified players.
Qualification for Worlds for individual players is not changing. Players will still receive direct invitations based on event performance and Championship Points accumulated over the 2027 season.
More information on the 2027 Pokémon GO World Championships will be released at a later date.
Pokémon 30th Celebration Merch
The Pokémon Center has restocked it’s special 30th Celebration merchandise, which has everything from ornaments, to pins, clothing, homewares, TCG accessories, and more! There are some simple pieces featuring a Pikachu with a 30 in place of their red cheeks, but also region themed wares, and various items showing that iconic Nidorino and Gengar opening scene from the anime.
