Niantic has announced an event that is bringing along with it new Masterwork Research that will reward trainers with yet another Master Ball. Additional rewards from this event will include Stardust, XP, Berries, encounters with Pokémon, and more! The Masterwork Research is intended to be completed over a long period of time, and will not expire.
In the main series games, the Master Ball was created by the Silph Co and was given to you for achieving specific things in the game. For example, after gaining all 8 Gym Badges, or after defeating Giovanni. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet it is described as ‘The very best Poké Ball with the ultimate level of performance. With it, you will catch any wild Pokémon without fail.’
NOTE: You are only able to hold 2 Master Balls at a time, so if you currently have two you will not be able to claim the 3rd Master Ball. The Master Ball was first released into Pokémon GO in May of 2023 as part of a Special Research during the Pokémon GO Season 10: Rising Heroes.

Previous Master Ball Research
We have previously had 2 Special Research that have rewarded trainers with a Master Ball. Technically it’s 3, but the third one was only available to anyone who didn’t finish the Timed Research in September of 2023 (so trainers have only been able to have 2 Master Balls until now)

- September 2023 – Timed Investigation: Master Ball
- November 2023 – Special Research: Master Ball
(The paid research was only available to anyone who didn’t complete the Timed Investigation: Master Ball from September 2023 in order to give them a chance to get a second Master Ball)
