Hello Trainers! A bundle of text updates for the referral system that was previously announced by Niantic has been pushed. The texts explain a lot of how the system appears to work, so let’s have a look!
A new badge

A new badge has been added, and it’s for referring friends. No hints at how many you’ll need to invite to get the badge levels though.
The old recruiter badge in Ingress was 2, 10, 25, and 50 to get through the levels. (Ingress has an Onyx level that was 100)

It appears the game does a check when you enter a referral code to check to see if you’re friends in Pokémon Go already. If you aren’t it offers you a chance to enter another code.

It looks like you’ll be able to see your milestone rewards on your friend’s trainer page from the friend’s list. It appears that you’ll get 100 Pokéballs for free, and some other rewards that are unnamed.
