Best Cynthia Decks in Pokémon TCG Pocket

The Space-Time Smackdown expansion introduced many new Trainer cards to spice up battles in Pokémon TCG Pocket. While the dreaded Cyrus card has proven to be the best of the lot, a certain card received a lot of hype but has been severely underrated in combat: the one-and-only champion of the Sinnoh region, Cynthia!

So, let’s explore two powerful decks themed around Cynthia, that are capable of dealing exceptional damage output. But before we uncover the said decks, let’s take a look at what the Cynthia card is capable of.

Decoding the Cynthia Supporter card from Space-Time Smackdown

Cynthia - 2 - A2 - #152
Cynthia
#152

Cynthia adds 50 DMG to attacks done by Garchomp or Togekiss, two of her strongest Pokémon from the main series games. Remember that a Supporter card can only be used once per turn.

Now, here the details for each Cynthia beneficiary:

Garchomp

Garchomp - 3 - A2 - #123
Garchomp
#123

Garchomp does 100 DMG with Dragon Claw, a 2 Energy move involving 1 Water and 1 Fighting Energy. It also has 140 HP, which can be buffed to 160 HP with the Pokémon Tool Giant Cape.

Once you have Garchomp good to go (2 Energy isn’t a pain, although it might be delayed because they are two different types), use Cynthia to fire off 150 DMG! This is enough to OHKO the EX cards of Dialga, Palkia, Darkrai, Mewtwo, and more.

Togekiss

Togekiss - 3 - A2 - #65
Togekiss
#65

Surprisingly, Cynthia is deadlier with Togekiss than Garchomp! 😯

Togekiss’ Overdrive Smash does 60 DMG by default. In the next turn, it does +60 DMG, bringing the damage tally to 120. If that isn’t grand enough already, you can add Cynthia to dish out a ridiculous 170 DMG!

170 DMG is good enough to even OHKO Palkia EX or Dialga EX with Giant Cape attached! The best part? This move requires only 2 Energy! Of course, you need to evolve it all the way from Togepi but we have the means to achieve that quickly.

With that being said, let’s check out the two decks.

  • The aim of this deck is to evolve Gible all the way to Garchomp as quickly as possible, while also having Cynthia in your Hand (ideally both Cynthia cards).
  • Gible should take up the Bench while Druddigon or Kangaskhan take up the Active Spot. Attach Rocky Helmet to your Active card.
  • If you have to choose between the two, go with Kangaskhan if you want to deliver damage (60 DMG if you get 2 heads, 30 DMG on 1 head, and 0 DMG if both tails) along with 20 DMG from Rocky Helmet. On the other hand, Druddigon can consistently deliver 40 DMG with Rocky Helmet.
  • Remember that your opponent may choose to not attack at all if they want to avoid Rocky Helmet damage. In such cases, go with Kangaskhan.
  • The challenge of obtaining Garchomp is not the Energy requirement as it’s only two. Rather, it is getting one each of both Energy types: Water and Fighting.
  • Once Garchomp is ready to go, bring it to the Active Spot, use Cynthia, and hit the opponent with a mean 150 DMG Dragon Claw. Remember that if the Active Spot card has 100 HP or less thanks to damage from Druddigon or Kangaskhan, don’t waste the Cynthia card and use the base 100 DMG of Dragon Claw instead.
  • When dealing 100 DMG, you can use Cyrus to pull in a weakened EX card and score the KO with Garchomp.
  • You can choose to dump Kangaskhan and include a Trainer card like Giovanni, Dawn, or Potion. However, we recommend adding Kangaskhan to this Dragon deck.
  • This is an excellent non-EX deck with Garchomp functioning like a powerful EX card courtesy of Cynthia.

  • The bulky Cresselia EX is the wall of this set, tanking damage in the Active Spot while Togepi chills on the Bench, waiting to evolve into Togekiss. Attach Rocky Helmet to Cresselia EX ASAP.
  • Like Garchomp, Togekiss just needs 2 Energy to use its attack. Unlike Garchomp, both Energies are of Psychic type.
  • With only Cresselia EX and Togepi as your Basic cards, you have a 50% chance of drawing either. For evolution to Togekiss, the Mythical Slab Item card is a boon, accelerating the process of drawing a Psychic-type card.
  • As soon as Togekiss is ready to go, swap Cresselia EX with it using Leaf, and your first hit does 60 DMG only. Use Cynthia right away if the extra 50 DMG (total 110 DMG) can secure an important KO.
  • All subsequent attacks from the Togekiss you just used do 120 DMG. Whenever convenient, use Cynthia to ramp the numbers up to 170 DMG and KO those irksome EX cards in one go.
  • While Togekiss is in fight mode, attach all following Energy gains to Cresselia whose Lunar Plumage Ability heals 20 DMG each time you give it Energy. A weakened Togekiss can be withdrawn to bring in Cresselia and do 80 DMG with Psychic Flash.
  • Since Togekiss OHKOs just about anything with the two Cynthia cards, there isn’t too much of a requirement for Cyrus, although we recommend adding at least one of Cyrus to your deck.
  • You can also prepare another Togekiss in the back seat, if possible. Remember that Togekiss is not an EX card and losing it gives your opponent only 1 point. It’s better to start using Togekiss with full health and let Cresselia EX do the damage sponging.
