TCG Pocket: How to use each Promo card from Mega Medicham EX Drop event

Mega Medicham EX spearheads a new Drop event in Pokémon TCG Pocket, accompanied by a set of great-looking Promos for the taking. Mega Evolution EX cards are generally very dominant, so you must be curious how the newest Mega fares in the current meta.

We’ll run down this one and every Promo available in the Mega Medicham EX Drop Event.

Cards obtainable in this event

The Mega Medicham EX Promo is a completely new Mega Evolution EX card. Tornadus and Plusle are alternate art reprints from their Fantastical Parade counterparts, while Mudkip and Ralts are altogether new cards. All of them have stamps to mark them as Promo cards.

Analysis of every Promo card from Mega Medicham EX Drop Event

Mega Medicham EX

A meagre 180 HP isn’t noteworthy for Mega Evolutions, and a 3 Energy move requiring both Fighting type icon and Psychic type icon Energies, with no Baby Pokémon in TCG Pocket to do the needful, makes the meta a tough outing for Mega Medicham EX.

However, the 140-160 DMG attack’s damage isn’t affected by any effects on the opponent’s Active Pokémon means that Mega Medicham is the only EX in the game that can directly take out Oricorio, despite the evil yellow birb’s immunity to EX attacks.

There is an emphasis on “directly” as some EX Pokémon can technically beat Oricorio with effects from their attacks, such as Mega Venusaur EX with its Sleep + Poison antics, or Mega Blaziken EX with the dreaded Burn status.

Aside from Oricorio, Mega Medicham EX also completely neglects the effects of Adaman, Jasmine, Heavy Helmet, and Metal Core Barrier. Some Metal types, such as Mega Steelix EX and Skarmory EX take reduced damage from their opponent’s moves. Well, all that doesn’t work with Mega Medicham EX!

The thing is, Rampardos does Mega Medicham’s job of taking out Oricorio, with lower risk (you don’t lose the game altogether on losing Rampardos). Sure, the perks against Metal decks are appreciated, but it’s a very niche utility.

Mega Medicham EX does come with a unique flavor, but it’s not strong ot viable enough to get itself a place in the meta.

Tornadus

Colorless types have the advantage that if they are even decently good, they can find play in any deck. Tornadus may not be the most meta-defining of the Fantastical Parade roster, but it does function as a lethal lead.

With any Baby Pokémon and a Stadium card in effect, you can do a remarkable 80 DMG from your second turn itself, whether you go first or second. 90 HP is also solid for a lead, so Tornadus is an easy fit for nearly any deck in the game, even if they lack a Baby. All you need is to have a Stadium in play, and voila!

Mudkip

Mega Swampert EX is one of the underwhelming Megas in Pokémon TCG Pocket, given that it may annihilate itself if it loses 2 Energy after it attacks. Moreover, there’s nothing special about it.

This Mudkip Promo is a new card compared to the existing one from Fantastical Parade, and frankly, doing no damage on getting heads is bad. The set’s Mudkip may do only 20 DMG, but at least it’s guaranteed. Besides, both versions have 60 HP.

So, if you do end up building a Mega Swampert deck, don’t go with this Promo. That said, this one is definitely cuter!

Ralts

The headliner of the Fantastical Parade set, Mega Gardevoir EX, is brilliant. Aside from 110 DMG from only 2 Psychic type icon Energy, it also grabs 3 Psychic type icon Energy from the Energy Zone, and lets you use them in any way you like.

This is incredible mechanics, letting Mega Gardevoir slay along with Diantha, or partner up with Giratina EX, Lunala EX, and/or Indeedee EX.

However, this Ralts Promo (a new card) is good, and is the way ahead. The OG Raltas from the set doesn’t do any damage and only confuses the target. If coin flips work in your opponent’s favor, then you’re basically doing nothing. This Promo inflicts 10 DMG and also heals 10 DMG for itself. It’s quite obvious that you should use this Ralts in Mega Gardevoir EX decks, with the 10 DMG also opening the doors for Cyrus later in the battle.

Plusle

There are so many better things you can do with a Basic Lightning-type Pika clone in TCG Pocket, like use Pachirisu to attach a Electric type icon Energy to a Benched Pokémon, while also doing 10 DMG to the opponent’s Active mon.

Plusle is not attractive in that regard, with not even a guaranteed paralysis effect to boot. You can just forget about this Promo after adding it to your collection.

Happy collecting and battling, Pokémon TCG Pocket-ers!
