Foongus Spotlight Hour (January 2026): Last Minute Guide

Pokémon Spotlight Hour will feature a different Pokémon and a special bonus for one hour at 6:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday during the month of January. Foongus Spotlight Hour takes place on January 27th, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm local time, with a bonus of 2x Stardust for catching Pokémon.

This Spotlight Hour is the fifth and final January 2026 Pokémon spotlight, and it is especially interesting as it is the best stardust event in the January 2026 schedule. In other words if you were planning on doing one spotlight hour, make this the one!

Trainers who plan to participate should be prepared with a Mega Pokémon to maximise candy gains per Foongus caught. Here’s everything you need to know!

Foongus Spotlight Hour

Bonuses

  • Stardust icon You will get 2x Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • Shiny icon Shiny Foongus and its evolutions are available in Pokémon GO

Note on Stardust Bonus

Foongus is one of the rare Pokémon that give extra Stardust on catch, rewarding 500 Stardust for every successful catch. This means, during the event, catching a Foongus can yield ten times the normal Stardust rate (1000 Stardust), which is enabled by the event’s 2× Stardust bonus.

Here’s how much Stardust you can get during Foongus Spotlight Hour in January 2026:

Type of catch Stardust
Regular catch 1,000
Weather boosted catch 1,250
Regular catch with Star Piece 1,500
Weather boosted catch with Star Piece 1,875

The best possible scenario you can have is to catch a weather boosted Foongus with an active Star Piece. Foongus is boosted by Sunny and Cloudy weather. We surely do hope that we get some good weather during the event!

The only downside of this event is that Foongus is relatively difficult to catch, and you will probably want to use Great Balls or Ultra Balls during the event. Otherwise, you could be spending too much time attempting to catch, rather than just catching.

We believe that the baseline for any calculation should be 50 Foongus. You should be able to get 50 Foongus during one hour, regardless if you are using the Fast catch trick, or just catching slowly.

Here’s how much Stardust you should be able to earn during the Foongus Spotlight Hour:

Star Piece active Weather is Sunny or Cloudy Stardust
❌ No ❌ No 50,000
❌ No  ✅ Yes 62,500
✅ Yes ❌ No 75,000
✅ Yes ✅ Yes 93,750
  • 50,000 Stardust is your minimal Stardust goal. This means you caught 50 Foongus, but there was no weather boost and you did not activate a Star Piece.
  • 62,500 Stardust is your minimal goal if the in-game weather is either Sunny or Cloudy.
  • 75,000 Stardust is the minimal guaranteed amount you can get. This should be easy to get if you activate two Star Pieces, regardless of in-game Weather. Star Piece increases your Stardust gain by 50%, which is an additional 25,000 Stardust over the baseline.
  • and finally… 93,750 Stardust is the amount of Stardust you will get if you catch 50 Foongus, with a Star Piece active, during Sunny or Cloudy weather.

Foongus Fact Sheet

Artwork of Foongus from Pokémon GO Foongus

Foongus is a Grass and Poison-type Pokémon, with weaknesses to Fire, Flying, Ice, and Psychic-type moves. Foongus has a Max CP of 1107 in Pokémon GO, it is weather boosted by Sunny and Cloudy weather, and it was originally found in the Unova region. Shiny Foongus is available in Pokémon GO.

Foongus evolves to Amoonguss with 50 Foongus Candy.

Shiny Foongus

Shiny Foongus can be tricky to spot when grinding quickly because the main different part of the shiny is the back half of the mushroom top becoming purple, which you can’t see unless Foongus is doing an attack animation. Keep an eye on the nose/mouth area instead, the shiny has a deeper colour as you can see below, so be careful with your shiny checks!

Mega Pokémon that boost Foongus

The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Foongus if they are Mega/Primal evolved:

A Note on Mega Catch Bonus

While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.

Is it worth evolving Foongus?

PVP

Amoonguss is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon, but in PvP, its go-to tools are the Astonish and Foul Play combo. 🖤

massive amount of stamina helps, but ultimately, it’s more of a Pokémon that absorbs damage, reduces the opponent’s HP, but doesn’t necessarily KO them. So, Amoonguss’ best role is as a defensive support Pokémon.

💥 The best PvP moveset for Amoonguss is Astonish, Foul Play, and Grass Knot.

🔵 Great League

  • Resisting Fairy, Fighting, and Water (alongside Grass and Electric)
  • 249 Stamina stat
  • A strong moveset

These factors allow Amoonguss to beat Azumarill, Annihilape, Dachsbun, Greninja, and Galarian Corsola. Its success mostly comes from tanking hits and switching out to an offensive Pokémon for the KO. 😁

🟡 Ultra League

  • Amoonguss beats Giratina Altered, Registeel, Cobalion, Ampharos, Feraligatr, Shadow Golurk, Skeledirge, Venusaur, Cresselia, Annihilape, and Greninja.
  • That’s solid core-breaking potential!
  • This makes Amoonguss a viable option in most Ultra League teams! 🍄 Impressive! 🤩

🟣 Master League

  • Amoonguss’ stats are too low to be viable in the Master League.
