Torchic, Combusken and Blaziken

pokemon go blaziken

Pokemon GO Blaziken is stepping up the starter game with its high ATK (240), that tops both Charizard’s  (223) and Typhlosion’s ATK (223). With a fairly solid MAX CP of 2631, rather close to its predecessors, Blaziken is shaping up to be in the mid-ranked attacker tier.

Blaziken has interesting dual typing: fire + fighting, making him an interesting counter for several popular Gym defenders. However, the drawback is its rather low DEF and STA.

Blaziken has low DEF (141) and very low STA (160), which, predictably, makes you depend on dodge to survive a battle. In other words, using Blaziken requires snappy dodges and fast counter attacks.

Torchic made its television debut on the 275th episode of the Pokémon series titled, “Get the Show on the Road”. Combusken made its television debut on the 308th episode of the Pokémon series titled, “Having a Wailord of a Time”. Blaziken made its television debut on the 265th episode of the Pokémon series titled, “Pop goes the Sneasel”, even before Ash stepped foot in the Hoenn Region.

Position in the meta game

With 2631 Max CP, Pokémon GO Blaziken is a far cry from the top tier ranks. However, its high ATK (240) gives it strong offensive potential, especially when paired with some interesting movesets.

On the other hand, its other stats are very low: DEF (141) and STA (160) makes it impossible to be a strong Gym Defender.

Plus, with the abundance of high ranking water types already well established in the meta game, Blaziken is a very easy target to take down.

Blaziken does have its Mega evolution. We predict that once Mega evolutions become a thing in Pokemon GO, Blaziken will quickly raise to the top of offensive Tier Lists.

Until then, Blaziken is doomed to live on the edge of the meta, just like the other rest of Generation III starters.
