Trainers,

we have some very exciting news to share! Firstly, we recently saw rumors in the online Pokémon development community claiming that Gym raid messages have appeared in the network traffic. Secondly, Niantic just officially confirmed that “all new cooperative social gameplay experiences” are coming to the game this Spring!

In their official blog post titled “Thank you…”, Niantic expressed their gratefulness to the player base and announced they won the prestigious BAFTA “Best Mobile and Handheld Game” award.

At the end of the article comes a direct response to the LGF 2017 article we published a few days ago. That same article was quoted by Niantic’s official Twitter account yesterday and today we’ve received more clarification:

We continue to be inspired by the passion of the 65+ million people from around the world playing Pokémon GO each month. We’re still at the beginning of the journey and there’s a lot more to come. With spring arriving in the northern hemisphere, players can look forward to all new cooperative social gameplay experiences in Pokémon GO that will give Trainers new and exciting reasons to get back into the sunshine.

Although a lot of this is still unclear and mysterious, it is now official that we’re in for a wild ride.

As far as Gym raids go, we have no confirmation to share at this moment, however, Niantic did officially confirmed that new game modes and experiences are coming. Will these “cooperative social gameplay experiences” include Gym raids or not, still remains to be seen.

Here’s the before mentioned network traffic mentioning Gym raids:

Does this means that GPS spoofing is finally over?

    • Rillan

      No.

    • Zenamez

Nope and I’m honestly confused as to where you came to that conclusion.

They’re preparing for team based coop (good. Gives us a reason to join a team other than holding gyms) so if anything spoofing will become more prevalent as spoofers jump from raid to raid. It’s not like they’ll be caught in a crowd of people.

      • Rillan

Naive boy wake up already. Even if u can benefit from teamwork, gyms wont disappear and it wont make easier to gather pokemons. So spoofing still will be easiest way to get your goal whatever Niantic add in game. Unless they ban every single player that used third party app but they wont do it cause its like huge player count loss.

        • GonzoI

They don’t actually need to ban them. Just disable their ability to spoof. That will cause it to be a tapering off as some sell their accounts, some try to play legitimately, some try to find a workaround, etc. It’s not much different than the hacked pokemon in the main series games – as long as it’s on your own, you’re the only one affected, but you can’t be allowed to compete with it.

        • Zenamez

Re-read my comment before trying to insult me, “naive boy”. I specifically mention spoofers spoofing to achieve raid goals, I never mention Gyms going away specifically how Teams have more of a use instead of just who holds what Gym and I never mention it being easier to get Pokemon.

I don’t condone spoofing and I am well aware adding stuff like this will only give a reason for people to spoof (I’m far from “naive” thanks). Spoofers who camp gyms are just bastards by default anyway. I can understand wanting to get Pokemon thanks to the shit excuse for a radar and how it’ll show you Pokemon which will despawn before you get close, but Gym camping via GPS spoofing is for arseholes who deserve nothing more than a permanent ban on any account they access.

It’s also pretty obvious at this point Niantic aren’t going to ban players who spoof (too many false positives to start with) and they’ve even mentioned the lack of spoofing response is due to support being flooded with reports (which I find hard to believe seeing how much they’ve earned from Go already but this is coming from a company who thought introducing more region exclusive pokemon would be a good idea).

They’ve already sent out a warning via the “Your account was accessed by a third party app” popup so if they do take action against bots and apps which use your login (that popup was just the start) – it won’t be long until Spoofers are next on the line. After all, the March 2017 security update broke GPS spoofing for those who were on it. It’s only a matter of time before users are either forced into that update, they update to a later security patch (which includes the GPS fix from before by default) or Niantic gets off their arses and makes sniping and other forms of spoofing detectable (not hard to do in the slightest).

Im been sarcastic… just sticking my finger into the wound… it would be nice though… PoGo is all about experiences, some of us like gym battling, some others dont.. for me, it IS a big issue… legit players deserve those coins (as its just a trophy, 5$ gives you more coins that what you get max per day), not spoofers seating at home.

        • Zenamez

I completely agree with you. It’s an absolute insult when you spend time and effort getting into a gym only for an armchair warrior to spoof their way across to the same gym to take it over from their own home.

I was hoping the gym rework would help prevent this, but strings in the APK just mention Raids which, if anything, will only give them a reason to continue spoofing. It means they could jump between gyms in a matter of seconds instead of having to travel there themselves.

I personally feel throwing £4 at Niantic for more coins when you had a steady flow legitimately (before a spoofer barged in and stole them) is the biggest insult out of all of this. I should not have to pay Niantic in order to not be left behind (as incubators are a must and those who have many at once almost always get an an advantage over you with higher IV pokemon and more candy) because they can’t get off their arses to finally combat spoofing properly.

It has kinda been disabled (for 3rd party gps spoofing apps), but it’s only if they (Android users) update to the March Security update. And even if they update , even if by mistake, they can just root and back to spoofing. So spoofing will always be around. Niantic will never be able to stop it. So all you can do is still try to enjoy the game somehow, stop playing(like so many say they would but still play), or jump on the spoof wagon.

      • vision33r

Plenty of phones that don’t receive updates are spoofing just fine.

        • irvingt13

I think I covered that. I said the March Security update disabled spoofing. So if you don’t have the March Security update then you haven’t received the update. So therefore you’re able to still spoof. I apologise if I’m not getting what you’re saying.

          • Reuben Reis

I can spoof with march security update
            Lol

          • irvingt13

You must be on a older OS. Android 7.X March Security update changes that for sure.

Ok. No one asked for a guide on how to spoof. And that how to link you gave clearly says you have to Root the phone. It’s the second step. No matter if when it’s all said and done , even after you unroot your phone you still had to root it. And I think I said that’s one of the three that would allow people to still spoof (custom ROM, old OS,Rooted phone). So I don’t think I’m the smartest. A question was asked and I have a answer to that question. You came with you’re little slick insult which still verified what I said. ” You still need to root”. So what was the whole point of your comment and the how to guide clearly saying in step 2 to ROOT your phone?

I’v been sailing for some weeks, and when I tried to boot the app after I came ashore, I got a message: “update to continue” so updating can be forced upon people, just not the cellular download. Without the update, the app just won’t start. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/401fa54a9ada4fe07d77aab2a02f7b2582b7f1da860b57c01e9cf932932e534b.jpg

I was talking about the phone software update. Not App update.

            I have MIUI rom

          • irvingt13

            So not Android 7.x?

          • klaasvaak

MIUI 8 runs on Android 6.0.1

          • irvingt13

Exactly. Unless it’s custom, rooted, or an older OS , that loop has been fixed in Android 7.x March Security update.

In “developer mode” (which does not even require root) you can disable auto updates even on Wi-Fi, it will prompt for install but won’t force the update… Food for thought

        • irvingt13

U are right. But it still downloads it to your phone. You just don’t have to install it. But if you’re not on wifi it won’t download or search for the update . But as soon as you’ve been on wifi for a while it will check for it and download it to your phone. I’ve gotten the update notification , so I factory reset my phone , went in Dev settings , turned off the auto update and haven’t been on wifi for a week and haven’t received the update notification. And on my other phone I restset it and left it on wifi, turned off the auto update and the next day it was downloaded in my phone but not installed. Food for though.

Correction: The text shown is notification messages stored in the app itself. The network traffic that triggers these notifications hasn’t been observed yet.
