With the Lunar New Years Event upon us, it’s no surprise that Niantic released a new Box Sale as well. The main complaint people have had with the previous few rounds of box sales is the lack of raid passes offered. Well, Trainers, this time around Niantic has made an attempt to fix that issue. Let’s take a detailed look at each one and discuss.

Before the verdict, I would like to reiterate that I chose to not use the standard price of Lucky Eggs, Incense, and Star Pieces since the comparison should be more on the price of buying in bulk. It would be misleading to compare it to the base price which is, in principle, designed to be more expensive than bulk to encourage consumers to spend more. That being said, I used the bulk price of these items when buying an 8-item bundle. Star piece prices were assumed to use the same price as an 8-item bundle of lucky eggs.

This box sale seems to cater to XP grinders and active raiders, as Lucky Eggs and Raid Passes are the only items common to all three boxes, and are the main components of them. Super Incubators are introduced starting with the Great Box and Star Pieces are only in the Ultra Box.
In line with recent box sales, the Great Box isn’t worth buying unless you’re desperate for the items it contains and you can’t currently afford an ultra box.
By far the best box with a 74% overall discount and the only box to contain those all-important Star Pieces.
If an Ultra Box isn’t in the budget this time, consider saving up for the next box sale. We expect to see the traditional Community Day Box in the coming weeks and a possible sale for the rumored Valentine’s event!
