Just when Niantic released the new evolutions, they also introduced new sale boxes. Are they worth your hard earned cash? Let’s find out and look at the analysis.

Before the verdict, I would like to reiterate that I chose to not use the standard price of Lucky Egg, Incense, Lure Module, and Star Piece, since the comparison should be more on the price of buying in bulk. It would be misleading to compare it to the base price which is in principle designed to be more expensive than bulk to encourage consumers to spend more. That being said, I used the bulk price of these items when buying an 8-item bundle.
Our Verdict
While it seems frustrating that they again decreased the number of Raid Passes, you should see that the Incubators have increased back to almost their usual numbers. Star Pieces are also noticeably absent, but that’s because the Stardust Event just ended and some people may still have Star Pieces on their storage. Hopefully, you have enough Stardust to power up some of the new evolutions. What’s interesting is that these boxes remind me of the Ultra Bonus Box Sale. Granted, the Ultra Bonus Box Sale is still better, but other than the Great Box, you can make a case for buying each boxes.
Special Box
Much like the other good Special Boxes, this Special Box is targeted towards new and returning players, or those who are hesitant to spend money in Pokemon GO. Just considering the Raid Passes and Incubators, this is the best Special Box in a while, but it’s overall savings, while not bad, is not on par with the Ultra Bonus event Special Box, which is also one of the best Special Box in a while. Overall, this is a must-buy box if you’re just starting out and have yet to buy a Box. This is not for the hardcore players.
Great Box
It only goes worse for the Great Box. While yes, considering the cost of Super Incubators alone, it’s already a steal, you also have to consider that the Ultra Box accomplishes the same thing and is just 700 coins away. Even if you prefer Incense over Lure Modules in the Ultra Box, there’s no justification of buying this box over the Ultra Box unless you really can’t spend more than the 780 coins offered.
The silver lining in this is that this is good for a starting player that wants to increase their spending by just a few hundred coins. It does offer Lucky Eggs, which the Special Box doesn’t have. If that’s the only positive for this Box, I suggest you’ll be better off at the Ultra Box.
Ultra Box
Don’t be fooled by the overall savings. 12 Incubators and 5 Lure Modules are enough for you to consider buying this in bulk, even with only 8 Raid Passes. This is a prime box to buy in bulk if you’re the type of person who prefers to grind via Lure Modules. If you and your friends bought this box, you can share the Lure Modules and have a longer Lure Party rather than just using Incense on your own.
Overall thoughts
I said before that “it’s almost due for Niantic to release a good box”. It’s not the best box sales, but they’re useful enough since those Incubators would definitely help in getting you those 2KM event eggs. My only hope is that the savings would finally trend upward from here on out.
If you’re like me who don’t plan on using those Incubators on this event, stocking up on items will help you prepare for the rest of Generation IV, since every baby Pokemon except Riolu and Budew are still unreleased. That’s 6 Baby Pokemon you need to hatch to complete the Sinnoh Dex, which will definitely take awhile.
