Trainers! Due to technical issues when Mega Rayquaza appeared in June, there is a make-up Rayquaza Raid Day occurring on August 3rd. However, this time the raids will NOT be Elite Raids, instead regular Mega Legendary raids that can be remote raided.
If you remember, back on June 29th was the Mega Rayquaza Elite Raid event, and it was fought with issues with raid eggs not showing up on the gyms on time, and only a few gyms getting the raids when they finally appeared.
Here are all the details for the Mega Rayquaza Special Raid Event, a remote-friendly celebration of Mega Rayquaza!

Rewards
- 1000× Stardust
- 3× Revive
- 1× Meteorite
- Remember! Unlike other Mega-Evolving Pokémon, Rayquaza can’t Mega Evolve with Mega Energy alone. Trainers hoping to Mega Evolve their Rayquaza will need to teach it the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent first!
- Dragon Ascent can only be learned by using Meteorites.
To get Mega Rayquaza you will not only need 400 Mega Energy, but you will also need to teach it its signature move Dragon Ascent which will only be obtained through the use of a Meteorite.
Step 1: Get Meteorite from Timed Research Mega Rayquaza
Complete the event specific Timed Research to earn Meteorite.
Step 2: Use Meteorite to teach Rayquaza Dragon Ascent
Rayquaza (Mega) | 1× Meteorite |
Step 3: Mega Evolve your Dragon Ascent Rayquaza into Mega Rayquaza
First time Mega Evolution | 400 Mega Rayquaza Energy |
Repeated Mega Evolution | 80 Mega Rayquaza Energy |
As long as you don’t remove Dragon Ascent from your Rayquaza, it will cost 80 Mega energy to Mega evolve the same Rayquaza again, or you can wait for the required cooldown period after which the Mega Evolution will be free. This cooldown period becomes shorter and the amount of mega energy required becomes lower the higher the mega level your Mega Pokémon is.
Mega Energy can be obtained via Mega Rayquaza Raids, if you have a previously Mega Evolved Rayquaza as your buddy it will earn 100 Mega Energy per candy.
