Aggron, Lairon and Aron

 Mawile Medicham and Meditite

Aggron in Pokémon GO is a steel rock type and he is the final evolution of the Pokémon GO Aron family. Aggron is a better version of Steelix, specialized in defense and taking the minimal amount of damage from currently popular meta types.

Aggron has a very high max CP: 3004. With high ATK (198) and bulky DEF (314), only let down is its STA (140), which luckily can be compensated by its DEF.

All members of this family love Snow and Partly Cloudy weather.

Aggron in the Pokémon GO meta

Aggron will take a place among the high ranks of Pokémon GO tier lists, mostly because of its high CP (3004) and great DEF. His Combat Power is so good that it actually beats Heracross (2938) and Espeon (3000), putting Aggron in the top 10 highest CP Pokémon.

Aggron with a double Steel moveset is good against any Fairy and Ice type, but we wouldn’t limit it’s usage there. There are nooks and crannies in the current raid line up which can be filled with a solid Aggron – especially vs upcoming Dragon types (Rayquaza, we’re look at you) where Aggron shines as it takes reduced damage from most of their attacks.

As far as Aggron’s type weaknesses and advantages go, Aggron takes the following damage:

  • 196% from Ground and Fighting
  • 140% from Water
  • 71.4% damage from Bug, Rock, Fairy, Dragon, Ice and Psychic
  • 51% from NormalPoison and Flying

If you think that’s all you get from Aggron, you’re wrong. Aggron is also known to have a mega evolution. With its mega evolution, Aggron loses its rock type attribute and becomes a pure steel type. Its ATK gets a large increase, and its DEF makes it almost impenetrable.

Pokémon GO Aggron Moves

Best moveset: Iron Tail / Heavy Slam

Aggron has access to a plethora of interesting movesets, but we prefer to go with double Steel, benefiting from STAB and dealing the maximum amount of damage. We’re really not sure about Thunder movesets, as we can’t think of a viable matchup.

  • Iron Tail Steel (quick)
  • Dragon Tail Dragon (quick)
  • Stone Edge Rock (charged, 1 bar)
  • Thunder Electric (charged, 1 bars)
  • Heavy Slam Steel (charged, 2 bars)

Shiny Aron, Lairon and Aggron in Pokemon GO

A normal Aron has a light grey (5% black + 95% white) armor covering its head and body. It has a light blue eyes and it’s underbelly is a dark shade of grey (65% black + 35% white) with four light grey stubby legs. A normal Lairon also has a light grey armor covering its head and body, as well as a dark grey underbelly, its has a light grey ring armor on its four legs that has the same color as its body and head. It also has light blue eyes. A normal Aggron has a light grey armor on its head, it also has armor around its upper arms and upper legs with the same color. Its Torso, lower arms and lower legs are of a dark grey color. Just like its previous evolutions, it has a light blue eyes.

Shiny Aron, Lairon, and Aggron are similar to their normal counterparts, but their dark grey areas are teal green! Another distinct difference is that shiny Pokémon from this family has red colored eyes.
