Best of Types: Bug (Pokémon GO PVE)

About this Series

Welcome to my newest series here on Pokémon GO Hub! The Best of Types series aims to help trainers understand which Pokémon are best for each type in the game when it comes to PVE. Through the use of in-depth statistics, defined below, we can make a ranked list. This series will feature an article and an infographic for each type. Each Pokémon in the series must be a pure attacker, meaning their fast and charged attack must be the same type. Credits go to GamePress for the statistics found on this article. Let’s get started!

NOTE: This series also analyses future unreleased Pokémon and what their rank and statistics may be like. This can be found near the end of the article.

Definitions

PVE – Player Vs Environment

PVE means Player vs Environment which involves any battle in-game involving battling against a non-playable character or Pokémon, for example Raid Battles, Gym Battles and Team GO Rocket.

ER – Equivalent Rating

Equivalent Rating is a combination of Total Damage Output and Damage Per Second, and is calculated by the formula DPS^3*TDO.

TDO – Total Damage Output

Total Damage Output is the average amount of damage a Pokémon can deal before it runs out of HP.

DPS – Damage Per Second

Damage Per Second is the average amount of damage a Pokémon can deal per second.

1. Mega Pinsir

Pinsir (Mega)

Moveset: Bug Bug Bite & Bug X-Scissor

ER: 40.85 DPS: 17.39 TDO: 528.7

Pheromosa

3. Volcarona

Volcarona

Moveset: Bug Bug Bite & Bug Bug Buzz

ER: 38.51 DPS: 16.44 TDO: 496

Although not many people have a high level powered-up Volcarona, if you do its worth using as a Bug-type in PVE.

4. Mega Scizor

Scizor (Mega)

Moveset: Bug Fury Cutter & Bug X-Scissor

ER: 38.05 DPS: 15.71 TDO: 540.4

ER: 37.54 DPS: 17.72 TDO: 356.9

Mega Beedrill is very similar to Mega Scizor, and is also recommended if you don’t have a Mega Pinsir. However, you need the legacy move Bug Bite for its best potential.

8. Genesect

Genesect

Moveset: Bug Fury Cutter & Bug X-Scissor

ER: 33.4 DPS: 14.51 TDO: 407.3

Genesect isn’t a very good Bug-type attacker in PVE, it is only recommended if you have nothing ranked higher.

9. Vikavolt

Vikavolt

Moveset: Bug Bug Bite & Bug X-Scissor

ER: 33.34 DPS: 15.07 TDO: 360.2

Future Meta Shake-Ups

Mega Heracross

Heracross (Mega)

Based on current statistics, Mega Heracross would rank 1st overall by some distance with an ER of 43.29!

Shadow Pheromosa

Pheromosa (Shadow)

If Pheromosa ever gets a Shadow, which feels a long way away, it would be very far ahead of the current Meta with an ER of 45.46.

Shadow Volcarona

Volcarona (Shadow)

If ever released, Shadow Volcarona would be close to Shadow Pheromosa with an ER of 44.48.

Shadow Genesect

Genesect (Shadow)

Considering that we are currently debuting Hoenn Legendary Shadows, it could be a while until Genesect gets its turn, but if it does it would have an ER of 38.39. This means it would rank 4th in the current Meta.

See you all next time. Next in this series is Dark!
