Slugma and Bergmite Spotlight Hour (Tuesday, December 17, 2024)

Pokémon Spotlight Hour will feature a different Pokémon and a special bonus for one hour at 6:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday during the month of December. Slugma and  Bergmite Spotlight Hour takes place on December 17, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm local time, with 2× Catch Candy bonus.

This Spotlight Hour is the third December 2024 Pokémon spotlight, and it is especially interesting as the featured Pokémon can be shiny, and you will get 2x Candy on catch! In other words, this is a great time to farm those Candies!

Trainers who plan to participate should be prepared with a Mega Pokémon to maximise candy gains per Pokémon caught. Here’s everything you need to know!

Mega Pokémon that boost Slugma General icon

The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Slugma if they are Mega/Primal evolved.

A Note on Mega Catch Bonus

While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.

PVP

MAGCARGO can act as a great budget option as it roasts most of the Bugs (though those with Water, Fighting, or Ground damage are obviously problematic), as well as the vast majority of Grasses. Just don’t get locked in versus other Rocks!

PVE

Despite being a defensive PokémonAvalugg is actually a decent Ice-type raid attacker. This is partly because there aren’t many strong, attack-focused Ice types, and partly because Avalugg’s best raid moveset is purely Ice-type. Speaking of moves, you’ll want an Ice Fang and Avalanche combo.
As an Ice-type raid attackerAvalugg is strong against FlyingGroundGrass, and Dragon types.

PVP

Despite being respectably bulky in all three leagues, Avalugg does not perform well in any of the main metas. This is because Avalugg is fairly easy to predict and counter as a pure Ice type. Additionally, Avalugg lacks a solid moveset, further hindering its viability.
