Sunkern is a Tier 1 raid boss in Pokémon GO, and it can be caught with the following CP values:
- 197 – 226 CP at Level 20, no weather boost
- 247 – 282 CP at Level 25 with Sunny weather boost
It is a Grass type Pokémon, which makes it weak to Fire, and Bug, Ice and Poison type moves. Tier 1 raid bosses are easily soloable so taking it down shouldn’t be too difficult, even without using the best counters.

Whenever the shadow variant of a Pokémon listed below is available in the game, it is strongly recommended to use it over its regular/purified counterpart. However, since Shadow Pokémon are extremely expensive to power up and require specific events to TM away Frustration, they will NOT be listed as raid counters in this article.
Sunkern has plenty of counters, but if you don’t have ANY of the Pokémon listed above powered up, you can always use:
- “Generalist” Pokémon capable of dealing neutral damage such as Psycho Cut + Psystrike* Mewtwo
- Eevolutions capable of dealing super effective damage such as Flareon
- Other heavy-hitting megas
But please, try to use the Pokémon listed above if possible and take advantage of Sunkern’s weaknesses.

Unfortunately, neither Sunkern nor Sunflora are useful in Pokémon GO due to its stats and moves. I guess you could raid it if you’re missing the shiny but it’s far from a rare spawn so you’ll probably end up getting it at some point.
We hope you found this raid guide useful, happy hunting!
