Mega Raichu Y, Mega Raichu X, Zeraora, and Shadow Zekrom… the last few months have been literally electrifying for the Electric meta in Pokémon GO. And if you thought that was it, the Full Marathon: Buddy Trek event has thrown in Discharge+ for Mega Manectric.
Set at 150 base power, 100 energy, and 2.50s duration, Discharge+ looks incredible and is sure to elevate Mega Manectric’s standing in the Electric department. But the question arises, even if it’s good, is it only a few moments in the spotlight or will it be a long-standing tryst with glory? Let’s find out if Discharge+ Mega Manectric is worth your resources.

Mega Manectric zaps itself right to the top bracket of Electric types in Pokémon GO, and since Mega Zeraora is yet to debut, it is technically #2. It has a higher TDO than Mega Raichu Y, and with Discharge+ (2.50s) having a whole second lower duration than Zap Cannon+ (3.50s), it is theoretically more efficient in shelling out burst damage in Raid battles that go down the wire.
But even then, it trails behind Mega Raichu Y by 8.59% in damage numbers, and that is something. With Party Play in tow, Mega Raichu Y also takes more of an affirmative lead, especially when you take into account that Thunder Shock is a 0.5s Fast Attack. Not to mention, Mega Raichu Y is cheaper and easier to power up, giving you a bigger reward for less effort. With only one Mega slot available, why trade Mega Raichu Y for Mega Manectric?
Not at all, and there are several reasons why.
For starters, Mega Raichu Y will remain better than Mega Manectric by all means. Even when Mega Zeraora debuts and leaves both Mega Raichu Y and Mega Manectric in the dust, Mega Raichu Y will still be the most economical Electric-type option, given that maxing out a Mythical is a nightmare in Pokémon GO.
Unfortunately for Mega Manectric, Mega Zeraora and Mega Raichu Y are not the only worries. There are two other Mega Evolutions that directly threaten Mega Manectric’s prospects, as per a recent datamine that revealed new +Charged Attacks for almost every Mega.
- Mega Ampharos (294 ATK) will receive Thunder Punch+
- Mega Eelektross (291 ATK) will receive Wild Charge+
Mega Manectric has a lower ATK (286) than both, so either or both may surpass it in damage figures, making Mega Manectric obsolete. While Mega Zeraora (Plasma Fists+, by the way!) and Mega Raichu Y will always have their stocks up in the [electic] meta, Mega Manectric looks to become obsolete.
In conclusion, it is an unwise decision to dump all your precious resources into a Pokémon that is technically destined to get outclassed. It is good, no doubt, but Mega Raichu Y clears it convincingly. In the current meta, it’s best to focus on Mega Raichu Y and Shadow Zekrom as your leading Electric-type attackers.
