The Mega Dimension DLC of Pokémon Legends: Z-A is here, and the brand-new addition has fans on the edge of their seats with the revelation of new Mega Evolutions! Legends: Z-A brought a host of new Megas whose stats, when translated, gave us a good idea of how meta-relevant these Mega Evolutions would be in Pokémon GO.
Some of them are slated to be top-notch attackers in our beloved mobile game, so the excitement is palpable when it comes to gauging the performance of these new Megas who have joined the roster.
Disclaimer: Stats and moveset in Pokémon GO are subject to change, so take this write-up with a grain of salt. Some Megas gain a new typing on Mega Evolution, and can adopt new moves, so keep that in mind as well.
Without any ado, let’s dive into a speculative Pokémon GO meta analysis of every new Mega Evolution available in the Mega Dimension DLC, and find out of they can disrupt the meta as we know it!

The Ice type has always had the most disappointing Megas, with the Mega Evolutions of Abomasnow and Glalie displaying underwhelming DPS values. Thankfully, Mega Froslass with a neat ATK stat of 289 is all set to be a meta-relevant one. Well, “meta-relevant,” not BEST, because Mega Baxcalibur is now your best Ice-type Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO!
But how does it stack up against the entire icy meta?
An ATK stat of 332 is higher than Black and White Kyurem (also Dragon/Ice), but obviously, the Legendary has the powerful Ice Burn, leaving Mega Bax behind. Mega Bax also outperforms Galarian Darmanitan Zen Mode, who has a crazy 323 ATK.
In terms of raw power against a typical Dragon Raid Boss weak to Ice:
Black Kyurem > White Kyurem > Mega Baxcalibur > Galarian Darmanitan Zen Mode
Against a Raid Boss double weak to Ice:
White Kyurem > Mega Baxcalibur > Galarian Darmanitan Zen Mode > Black Kyurem
Keep in mind that Mega Baxcalibur is bulkier than both B&W Kyurem, and it also has the Mega Evolution boost in battles, so GodChilla would situationally be the best Ice Pokémon in Raids.
Mega Baxcalibur promises to be a dominant Ice type, and if it gets a well-tuned Glaive Rush in its eventual Community Day, it can even become a top Dragon-type attacker in or around the level of Mega Garchomp (the old one), but still behind Mega Rayquaza.
Hold onto or hunt a high IV Frigibax, you’re going to love wielding Mega Baxcalibur in Pokémon GO!

We spoke about Mega Garchomp in the last section, so let’s get to Mega Garchomp Z now. It’s a pure Dragon type, and while it is behind the OG Mega Garchomp in DPS (also loses the Ground typing), it is still fantastic.
321 ATK with Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe makes Mega Garchomp Z clearly better than Outrage Mega Salamence, well ahead of Shadow Dragonite as well.

Step aside, Mega Lucario, we have a new Fighting type taking over your throne! Indeed, Mega Lucario Z is the new ruler of the Fighting meta, sporting a significantly higher ATK than the OG, but losing some bulk.
It’s a deadly glass cannon, boasting unreal Fighting type damage with its Force Palm + Aura Sphere combo. With Fighting being so useful for Raids, this is one of the best Mega Evolutions you can get, considering all Megas, not just the bunch from the Mega Dimension DLC!
And guess what? That’s not all to Mega Lucario Z, because it also learns Bullet Punch + Meteor Mash in Pokémon GO, making it a superb Steel-type attacker. Its damage output is far greater than Mega Metagross but trails behind the Crowned Doggos, Dusk Mane Necrozma, and Shadow Metagross. Bonus points to the fact that Mega Lucario Z captures the Anubis vibe better than Mega Lucario or base Lucario ever did.
Take your crown, Mega Lucario Z!

Say hello to the new best Dark type in Pokémon GO, Mega Absol Z! Just like Mega Lucario Z, this powerhouse dethrones its own old Mega to cement itself as the very apex of the Dark meta. While it’s still flimsy, it’s bulkier than Mega Absol, making Z the crown holder.
You need to dodge a lot, but Mega Absol Z’s Dark DPS is going to be unreal. There’s more, though, as Mega Absol Z is Dark/Ghost type!
In the Ghost department, Mega Absol Z surpasses Mega Banette and Mega Chandelure, but remains behind Mega Gengar and Dawn Wings Necrozma in performance. However, at this stage, Absol has no Ghost moves in Pokémon GO. If given Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball (both of which it learns in the main series games), it would end up being a top Ghost-type attacker, but you’re still going to lean towards the Dark side, so it doesn’t really matter if it gets those moves or not.
Hello, darkness Mega Absol Z, my new friend!

Mega Darkrai is behind Mega Absol Z, Mega Absol, Mega Tyranitar, and a few Shadows like Absol, Tyranitar, Hydreigon, and Darkrai. It overtakes Mega Houndoom in DPS, so that’s nice, and it is quite viable, but surpassed cleanly by other Dark Megas. You’ll want to use Mega Tyranitar and Mega Absol Z instead.
But you have to admit that it looks amazing! Like, WHAT IS THAT?! Biblically accurate Darkrai, lol.

It’s sushi galore as Mega Tatsugiri is served with a plate full of goodness and stats that kind of make it viable, although outclassed severely. It currently has a complete Water-type moveset in Pokémon GO, and while 262 ATK is decent, it trails behind even Mega Blastoise. Moreover, it lacks something as powerful as Hydro Cannon. Hence, while Mega Tatsugiri is a useful Water type, even Hydro Cannon Inteleon surpasses it by miles.
Mega Tatsugiri is also a Dragon type, but it doesn’t learn Dragon Tail or Dragon Breath in the main series games. We’ll have to hope that Dragon Cheer is a Fast Move, but even then, its ATK hovers around the regular Dragonite-Garchomp range, making it an underwhelming pick in the draconic meta.

Raichu has always been given the cold shoulder by the Pikachu fandom, with some *cough* people of culture preferring Raichu over the yellow rat, and now, those folks can rejoice as Raichu gets two Mega Evolutions ala Charizard and Mewtwo.
Mega Raichu X faces the Y>X syndrome (spoilers even before we get to Mega Raichu Y, haha) as this version is viable but not on par with the Y variant (oh, you have no idea how much!).
277 ATK is pretty low when compared to the sheer offensive prowess of the top Electric types, and even Mega Eelektross is stronger than Mega Raichu X. It’s usable, but nowhere in the top echelon of Electric types in Pokémon GO.

No, you’re not seeing things as Raichu’s redemption arc is finally here! A blistering 339 ATK propels Mega Raichu Y to the summit of Electric-type DPS, putting it just behind Mega Zeraora and Thunder Cage Regieleki in power. Mega Raichu Y inflicts more damage than Xurkitree, although this one is more fragile, making dodging mandatory.
If you have a Hundo/Shundo Pikachu stored for nostalgic factors, evolve it into Raichu right away and brace yourself for the debut of Mega Raichu Y, the most electrifying Mega Evolution in the game!

Mega Chimecho is going to be one of those filler Megas, having stats that won’t make it any relevant, especially when you consider how powerful the top Psychic and Steel types are in Pokémon GO. A great-looking Mega Evolution, though!

Mega Golisopod adopts Mega Scizor’s typing but fails to match its power level. Honestly, Mega Golisopod’s ATK isn’t even reminiscent of typical Mega Evolutions in Pokémon GO, and it remains unviable on the PvE front.
If anything, it is somewhat bulkier than Mega Scizor, so it can keep the Mega boosts running for a while in Raid battles.

Mega Golurk is great, even though it’s close to the titans of the Ground and Ghost typing in Pokémon GO. It looks like it’s trying to masquerade as Mega Metagross with that huge X, but it doesn’t match the Pseudo Legendary’s powers.
As a Ground type, it does more damage than regular Precipice Blades Groudon, making it quite viable! However, it is poor as a Ghost attacker.

Meowstic embodies the kind of Pokémon that deserve a Mega Evolution, and Mega Meowstic isn’t too shabby. Obviously, Psychic types are too strong, and while Mega Meowstic’s ATK doesn’t hit 300, it does okay, being stronger than Mega Latias and around the level of Mega Metagross. It could have done better with its Mega boosts had it possessed more bulk, but overall, Confusion + Psychic backed by 288 ATK hits hard. At the end of the day, it is quite outclassed but functional nevertheless.

With an ATK of 331, Mega Heatran is going to remain outclassed by the many Mega Blast Burn users, including the new Mega Delphox, as well as Mega Chandelure and Blacephalon in the Fire department. It does more damage than the likes of Shadow Darmanitan and Shadow Moltres.
As a Steel type, even if it learns Metal Claw in GO, it won’t be close to any of the top Steel Pokémon Megas and Legendaries, although it will be stronger than Dialga.

It’s poetic justice as Mega Staraptor is a Fighting/ type, just like everyone anticipated.
That 278 ATK is great for Mega Staraptor as a -type attacker, as, barring the omnipotent Mega Rayquaza, there aren’t too many Pokémon with a high ATK and/or a good moveset.
In fact, with Gust + Fly, Mega Staraptor clinches itself a superb position as the next best type after Mega Rayquaza and base Rayquaza.
As a Fighting type, it isn’t viable as it doesn’t learn any of Pokémon GO’s Fighting moves except Close Combat. Even if it gets access to a functional moveset, it has to compete with the same typed Mega Hawlucha.
Just use Mega Staraptor as a lethal flyer!

Crabominable has been a useless (and ugly) Pokémon in the meta, and, unfortunately, Mega Crabominable is also just an okayish addition. 242 ATK is a low value for Megas. For context, it’s 10 points lower than that of Mega Glalie, an underwhelming Ice-type Mega Evolution.
As a Fighting type, competition is fierce, and it lacks a good moveset to be even considered worth running over non-Mega Dynamic Punch users. Mega Crabominable is just a filler Mega Evolution.
We have covered all the Mega Evolutions whose base forms are currently available in Pokémon GO. The following new Megas from the Mega Dimension DLC don’t have their base forms available yet, so it’s just wild speculation.

The gamemaster has moves like Volt Switch and Wild Charge in Zeraora’s Pokémon GO movepool, and if we go with that, it would be THE #1 Electric-type attacker in Pokémon GO! If its signature Plasma Fists move is made into a powerful Charged Move, it can scale greater heights.
This is going to be a monster.

Mega Magearna has the sumptuous Steel/Fairy type, an ideal combo for Dragon type Raid Bosses. From its main series movepool, Magearna doesn’t learn any of the available Fast Moves in Pokémon GO unless its signature Fleur Cannon (a Fairy move) is made into one, which would make it an exceptionally strong Fairy type attacker.

Mega Glimmora, with its currently datamined movepool of Rock Throw and Meteor Beam, would be the top Rock-type attacker in Pokémon GO, surpassing all except the obvious hadow Rampardos but with far greater bulk, making it the overall best.
It doesn’t learn any of the Poison-type Fast Moves available in Pokémon GO, but if its signature Mortal Spin becomes one and is stronger than Poison Jab, that paired with Sludge Wave to become a superb Poison-type attacker.

Mega Scovillain has neat stats that give it some degree of viability, even though it’s outclassed as expected. Its movepool appears to be quite good, with Leafage, Grass Knot, Fire Fang, and Overheat in the mix.
The amazing Grass/Fire typing gives this Pokémon a double resistance to Grass moves, establishing Mega Scovillain as a strong Fire-type attacker against these Raid Bosses. Obviously, it doesn’t hold a candle to supreme attackers like Mega Charizard Y (heavily resists Grass) or many other Megas, Legendaries, and Shadows, but it surpasses the likes of Darmanitan Standard.
As a Grass type, it is better than Mega Victreebel. Overall, it is an outclassed but handy Pokémon with a fun design to boot.
Which new Mega Evolution are you the most excited for? Some of these are going to shake the meta in ways we didn’t expect, and that’s the beauty of it!
If you have high IVs of the base versions of the best Megas from this lot, save it, power it up, and once the said Mega Evolution debuts in Pokémon GO, you’re going to have a lot of fun!
