Joining Raids from the Friends List Is Back with Minor Updates

Trainers, the ability to join a Friend’s Raiding session remotely from the Friends List has returned! After being tested during GO Wild Area: Global weekend, Niantic has announced that the feature was temporary and would be removed after November 24th. However, it is back… just with a few minor changes.

Updates to the feature

Previously when you joined a friends raid you were able to invite additional friends from your own friends list to the raid. However, this is no longer the case. It works the same as a regular remote raid invite now and you cannot invite further trainers.

Additionally, when you joined remotely via the friends list before you were able to join any lobby even if your friends lobby was full. However, this is also no longer the case. If your friends raid lobby is full with 20 trainers it will not let you join a new lobby, again the same as a regular remote raid invite.

How to join your Friends raids without an invite

If one of your friends is currently in the Raid Lobby, waiting for the Raid to start, you will be able to use a Remote Raid Pass to join that Raid without an invitation!

  1. To join a Raid from your Friends List:
  2. In Map View, navigate to your Trainer Profile.
  3. Tap the Friends tab at the top of the screen to open your Friend List.
  4. Friends that are currently waiting to join a Raid will appear in your Friend List with the Raid Boss below their Trainer Name. You can also sort your Friend List by which Friends are currently waiting to join a Raid. Note that you can only join Raids for Friends who have opted in to sharing their Raid activity.
  5. Tap on your Friend to view the Raid information, including the number of Trainers waiting to join the Raid and the time left before the Raid begins.
  6. Tap BATTLE to join the Raid. Note that the button will change color to reflect the type of Raid Pass that would be required to join, Green for an in-person Raid and pink for a remote raid.
