After years of asking for it, it Pokémon GO’s Trainers are finally getting their wish granted – especially those in rural and developing areas. In a recent update focused on the upcoming Road to Unova event, Niantic shared that you may notice “Pokémon appearing in even more places than before”.
With this update, Trainers will see more Pokémon in more places, and in a greater variety of areas. According to Niantic, that includes “densely populated, rural, suburban, or rapidly expanding areas”, where this change may increase the number of both Pokémon encounters and areas where Pokémon appear overall.
In other words, we are not just getting more Pokémon, we are getting new spawn points, potentially new Pokémon nest areas and increased spawn variety.
We checked with Niantic, and this will be a permanent change to the in-game spawns system, and, according to Niantic, the change has already happened. We think that this is an official confirmation of the recent Pokémon GO Map updated, that brought new Spawn Points and street data. A bit unfortunate, as we hoped that this is an additional update that would be rolling out in the weeks ahead of GO Tour Unova.
With that being said, this is what was observed at that time:
- Different Pokémon will appear in more areas than before this update
- In densely populated areas, you’ll see roughly the same numbers of Pokémon as before, but they will be spread out more evenly
- You should also see Pokémon appearing in different locations than before, especially in rural areas
- For Trainers in rural or rapidly expanding areas, this may also increase the number of Pokémon that appear overall
Pokédex gets a visual update
In addition to this update, Niantic has also shared that an updated version of the in-game Pokédex is coming soon. The Pokédex is getting a comprehensive visual update just in time for your GO Tour: Unova collection adventures. These changes are aimed at helping Trainers more easily identify which Pokémon they already caught, and which Pokémon they’ve yet to collect.
Although we don’t have any images to share, we have seen some illicitly obtained ones floating on the interweb. If they are true, the Pokédex will be a really great tool to use in GO.
