Observations from Asia-Pacific’s Bulbasaur Community Day 3

Posted in

A few things to note from observations made in the Asia Pacific region by our very own DARE☆.

Pre-event

  • Have you reviewed our article on skipping the catch animation? It will be a great time to go over it and be prepared to catch at a higher rate!
  • Do you have enough Great Balls and Ultra Balls? Bulbasaur catch rates are pretty bad, you’ll need a fair few if you plan to catch a lot of them!
  • Have you prepared your starpieces and lucky eggs? With Star Pieces, you’ll be able to get 3x the stardust you normally do, whereas lucky eggs will ensure 6x the XP you get from catches! You will not get XP from raids and evolutions, but, with the speed of animation skipping, you’ll still be able to gain XP at a fair rate!
  • Meet up with friends! A Community Day event is far more fun with other people.
  • After the event, share your experiences with us on the Go HUB discord! We have a channel specifically for stories and pictures from your event!

In the lead up to the event, it might be useful not to catch everything in your planned community day location. Once the event starts, Pokemon in the area will change, and there is a high possibility of a Bulbasaur being included in that bunch.

The Event Itself

There seem to be additional spawn locations effective during the event. Additionally, there seem to be similar spawn rates to the previous two events (Dratini and Pikachu) – Keep in mind the spawn rates for this author were effected by good weather for 2 of the 3 hours of the event, and is also within a biome where Bulbasaur usually spawn as well.

Shiny rates are fairly high, similar to the last event. This author managed to see 12 Shiny Bulbasaur during the event, with a total of 242 Bulbasaur seen for a 1 in 20 rate.

Catch rates for Shiny Bulbasaur seem to be increased over normal ones. They are definitely easy to catch, and, while the catch rate is not 100%, it is still fairly high, with a number of them caught on straight, pokeball throws.

Remember to evolve a Venusaur! Frenzy Plant is the special move this month, and you will definitely want to evolve a Venusaur with one. Interestingly, during the event itself in the Asia Pacific region, Bulbasaur caught before and after the event were glitched during the evolution process, with Frenzy Plant not displaying properly on the screen. Thankfully, these issues seemed to fix itself after the event.

Keep in mind, telling a Shiny Bulbasaur apart from a normal one can be pretty challenging if you don’t know what to look out for. The colours are pretty similar, and at a lower screen brightness, you may only have the Stars to look out for. Check your Bulbasaurs properly!
