Pokémon GO Summer Tour 2018: Global Event Challenges and Upcoming Shinies announced
Pokemon GO Plus

Come alive, Trainers! The Pokémon Go Twitter and Pokémon Go Live website have just officially announced the global challenges for Go Fest at Chicago, The Dortmund Safari Zone, and Yokosuka! These challenges will allow trainers from all over the world to take part in festivities, even if they cannot attend the several different events going on this summer! Alongside this, we have some special news on shinies and the appearance of new Alolan forms throughout the summer. This is a lot of information to take in, so let’s go through it nice and slowly, shall we?

Dortmund Safari Zone: June 30th – July 1st

The global catch challenges this year are not a ‘global’ challenge, but a series of different challenges for each of the regions of the world. The challenges for the Safari Zone are as follows:

Region Task Reward
Safari Zone Attendees Complete 100,000 Research Tasks Extra Catch XP
Europe, Middle East, and Africa Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Extra Raid XP
Americas Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Extra Hatch XP
Asia-Pacific Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Lucky Eggs will last 1 hour

It is unknown, but we assume that the XP bonuses will be double XP opportunities, which will pair nicely with the Lucky Eggs lasting one hour (though, rip mass evolutions). These awards might be unlocked right after the event, or later, along with a bonus which will be released on July 7th.

Along with this fantastic news, it has also been mentioned that Roselia will have a shiny variant- and we are not disappointed. In case you did not know, this is what shiny Roselia looks like:

Pokémon Go Fest Chicago- July 14th and 15th

Ah, what does Pogo Fest have in store for us? Well, it’s the same global challenges as above, but they feature different rewards.

Region Task Reward
Go Fest Attendees Complete 100,000 Research Tasks Extra Catch Candy
Europe, Middle East, and Africa Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Extra Hatch Candy
Americas Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Reduced Egg Distance
Asia-Pacific Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Extra Rare candies from Raids

Numbers, please, Niantic. We assume that these extra candy bonuses will be double candy bonuses, and we cannot say for sure how much the eggs will be reduced, or how many extra or guaranteed candies you will be able to receive from a raid. Either way, these rewards so far are fantastic, and with regions and a player base as large as ours, we should have no issue hitting these goals! Like Dortmund, we are unsure when all the unlocked bonuses will be live, but there will be a bonus reward unlocked on July 21st!

Now, for the real surprises. Plusle and Minun will have their shiny variants unlocked at Pokémon Go Fest for the world, which you can take a look at below. Catching these Pokémon will also yield you bonus stardust!

So subtle and cute, especially Minun’s mint coloration. But wait, there is more. Alolan Diglett and Geodude will also be joining us! These Pokémon will be released for the world at the start of Go Fest, so be sure to get out there and get your hands on these two new Alolan Pokémon!

Other than that, it is stated that Pokémon like Trapinch and Feebas will appear more worldwide as well!

Yokosuka Safari Zone- Late Summer

This is the event with the least information, but you an assume that there are some global challenges for us to complete!

Region Task Reward
Safari Zone Attendees Complete 100,000 Research Tasks Extra Catch Stardust
Europe, Middle East, and Africa Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Star Pieces last one hour
Americas Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Extra Hatch Stardust
Asia-Pacific Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks Extra Raid Stardust

Gotta love that stardust. It is unknown when these bonus awards will be unlocked, as there seems that there is not even a date for this Japanese event at this time, but as the event creeps closer, we should have more information.

Either way, all these challenges are the same, and field research oriented, making players really dip their feet into completing as much research as they can!

Curious Ultra Unlock….

The most interesting thing is from the Graphic posted on the Twitter and Event Announcement page… Take a look for yourselves.

There will be a special Ultra Bonus unlocked, likely at the end of summer when all of these events have passed, likely based off of the world’s performance in their smaller challenges. The first thing that comes to mind is a regional reward, much like they had done with Farfetch’d in one of their past Global Catch Challenges. Perhaps Mr. Mime will break out of Europe and cause creepy havoc all over the world? Tauros will trample over the rest of the world? It is impossible to tell, but we can dream of regionals moving, either permanently or for a short period of time. The bonus could be anything, but we look forward to whatever happens!

Are you excited? Are you going to be doing as many research tasks as you can during these event periods to try and unlock these special bonuses for the world? We sure will!!! We can do it, Trainers! As always, we are all buzzing on our Discord! Come join the fun!
