TCG Pocket: Top 3 Colorless type cards to use with Dialga EX

The Space-Time Smackdown expansion has got Pokémon TCG Pocket players on their toes, as decks consisting of Darkrai EX and Palkia EX have shaken the very core of the meta.

However, there’s another EX card that, aside from giving Metal decks a new leash of life, has made certain Colorless type cards stronger than ever thanks to its battle mechanics: the one-and-only Dialga EX.

So what makes Dialga EX such a top-tier supporter and which Colorless cards are beneficiaries of this Legendary’s battle tactics? Let’s uncover!

Decoding the Dialga EX card from Space-Time Smackdown

Dialga EX is one of the two poster Pokémon of the Space-Time Smackdown set, and just like its partner in crime, Palkia EX, this card also has 150 HP.

But while the latter does a devastating 150 DMG, Dialga’s main attack Heavy Impact does only 100 DMG for 4 Energy. Yep, that sounds super underwhelming but the twist here is that Dialga isn’t meant to be an offensive Pokémon at all!

That’s because the other attack, Metallic Turbo, is Dialga EX’s main weapon. This 2 Energy, 30 DMG move comes with an OP gimmick: it gives 2 Metal Energy to 1 of your Benched Pokémon each time the move is used!

This is incredible for Melmetal, who needs 4 Energy to use its move, and Dialga EX has this popular Meatl-type Pokémon ready to go in two turns.

If you think outside the (Metal) box, this gimmick can be used to much advantage for certain Colorless type cards who can quickly grab Metal Energy from Dialga EX, come to the battlefront, and wreak havoc!

The idea is to have Dialga EX on the Active Spot attached with an appropriate Pokémon Tool like Rocky Helmet or Giant Cape, use Metallic Turbo to farm Energy for the Colorless Pokémon of interest on the Bench while adding in 30 DMG damage each time, and you use the Leaf Supporter card to bring back Dialga EX, and then let your charged up Colorless card get the job done.

So, here are the Colorless type cards that can create ripples in the meta with the help of Dialga EX.

Wigglytuff EX

Card not found in this set.

Wigglytuff EX has always been one of the most underrated cards from the Genetic Apex set. Sporting a tanky 140 HP, its Sleepy Song attack does 80 DMG and puts the opponent to sleep. When it’s your opponent’s turn, they flip a coin and if tails, they stay asleep.

In their slumber, the Active Pokémon can’t retreat or attack, leaving it a sitting duck to your offense. Two Sleepy Song attacks from Wigglytuff deal 160 DMG, which is enough to KO nearly every Pokémon. If this KO’d card is EX, you inch closer to victory.

The icing on the cake with Wigglytuff is that even its pre-evolution, the Jigglypuff promo card can put opponents to sleep. So if you Jigglypuff takes up the Active Spot before Dialga EX, you are still in a good position.

You need just two Metallic Turbo from Dialga EX to have Wigglytuff EX ready. Consider attaching Rocky Helmet to Dialga EX, Giant Cape to Wigglytuff EX, and use Pokémon Communication to get to Wigglytuff ASAP, and bring nightmares to your opponent without using Darkrai EX. 😉

Lickilicky EX

Lickilicky is among the new crop of EX cards released in the Space-Time Smackdown expansion and woah, is it good!

Licking Fury requires 4 Energy and deals 100 DMG + 40 DMG for each head you obtain on flipping coins until you get a tail. Soooo…. just 2 heads is 180 DMG?! 😯 Even a single head dishes out 140 DMG, which can be ramped up to 150 DMG with Giovanni, OHKOing monsters like the EX cards of Dialga, Palkia, Darkrai, and Mewtwo among many others. A good number of heads even puts Celebi EX to shame. Remember that even if you get a tail on the first trail you’re still doing 100 DMG.

Acquiring 4 Energy was its only constraint but Dialga EX on the Active Spot solves that problem. Just two Metallic Turbo and bam! Licking Fury is ready to roll! 😈

Yanmega EX

Yes, yes, I know Yanmega EX is NOT a Colorless type Pokémon. But I’d like to draw your attention to the fact that its Air Slash attack requires 3 Colorless Energy, which Dialga EX can fulfill. 😀

And, it gets reallllyyyyy interesting here… since Yanmega EX is a Grass-type card, you can use the Erika Supporter card to heal 50 DMG each turn! 😮

Add 2 Potion cards along with 1 Erika, and you can heal up to 90 DMG in one turn, and heal 50 DMG in another turn with the other Erika card. Additionally, put the Shaymin card on your Bench, and you can also heal 10 DMG from all your Pokémon each turn thanks to its Fragrant Flower Garden Ability. This is 100 DMG healed in a single turn!

With Giant Cape on Yanmega EX, it’s now 160 HP. With all that healing, Yanmega EX turns into an unkillable Pokémon that can win you matches. Try this!

Dialga EX has molded into the role of a supporter and these three Colorless type cards are going to enjoy huge dividends with the Legendary’s assistance! Sure, there are more cards like Porygon-Z, Snorlax, and Pidgeot EX who stand to benefit from Dialga EX, but these three are undoubtedly the most impactful.

Go, spice up the meta, and surprise your opponents with decks consisting of the cards highlighted above. Aside from plenty of wins, you even earn bragging rights! 🙂

Happy collecting and battling, TCG Pocket-ers!
