Taillow and Swellow

pokemon go swellow

Taillow is the very first Pokémon that Ash caught in the Hoenn Region. In Pokemon GO Taillow has dual typing: normal and flying. It’s evolved form, Swellow shares the same type, but unfortunately comes with a laughable Max CP of 1747.

Its stats are low in all fields. Therefore, Taillow and Swellow will be your typical catch-and-transfer Pokémon in Pokemon GO, just another Pokémon to fill in entries on the Pokédex.

This Pokémon family will be expected to flock your sightings just like the other flying types did in the past.

Taillow made its television debut on the 278th episode of the Pokémon series (Advanced Generation: Episode 4) titled, “You can never Taillow”. Swellow was first seen it’s on the 320th episode of the Pokémon series (Advanced Generation: Episode 46) titled, “Candid Camerupt”. On the other, Ash’s own Taillow evolved into a Swellow on the 354th episode of the Pokémon series (Advanced Generation: Episode 80) titled, “That’s just Swellow”.

Position in the meta game

Swellow will not be a great addition to Pokemon GO, and it wont appear in any of the tier lists. Its Max CP of 1747 is too low for pretty much anything, and has a rather low STA (120) and DEF (130) stats, so gym defense is not an option. Its mediocre ATK (185) does not really add much to its performance, especially due to it’s easily countered typing. Swellow will be basically a punching bag for other Pokémon.

Swellow is known for its incredible speed in other Pokémon games. This speed might even appear in Pokemon GO through fast dodge mechanics, but that’s yet to be seen. Swellow might be fast enough to dodge attacks, but looking closely at its other obvious stats, it only takes one or two hits to take it down. One wrong move in evading an attack would cost Swellow’s HP to decrease drastically, or most likely, drop down to nothing.

Swellow may have been oversold by the cartoon series, but in Pokémon Go, it will be no more than a Pokédex filler.

Shiny Taillow and Swellow in Pokemon GO

A normal Taillow has dark blue feathers, red colored marking from its chest to its forehead, and a white belly. A normal Swellow also has dark blue feathers, red colored markings on its face down to its chest and a white belly.

In contrast, a shiny Taillow has green feathers, bright orange marking from its chest to its forehead, and a white belly. A shiny Swellow has green feathers, orange colored markings on its face down to its chest and a white belly.
