Welcome back, Trainers! The Pokémon GO Fest Mega Finale is here, and with it comes a fresh wave of Mega Raids that could reshape your battle roster for months to come. If you have been wondering which of these new Mega Evolutions deserve your resources and attention, you are in the right place. This guide breaks down every featured Mega on Day 2 of the Mega Finale from a practical PvE perspective: what each one actually does in raids, where it fits in the current meta, and whether it is worth building for long-term use. Mega Mewtwo Y remains the undisputed king of Psychic type raiding. With one of the highest Attack stats in the game and a moveset centered on Psycho Cut and Future Sight+, it melts through Psychic weak bosses faster than any other attacker. Using our DPS Comparer Tool:

Mega Mewtwo Y was already the best with Psystrike as its Charged Attack. But with Future Sight+, it has gone even further beyond. Its versatility is also worth noting; while it shines brightest as a Psychic attacker, it can function as a very strong generalist in pinch situations thanks to its coverage moves. Mega Mewtwo Y is a very strong Fighting, Electric and Ice raid attacker as well. For Trainers who want the absolute best Psychic attacker and a reliable source of Psychic Mega Boost for teammates, Mega Mewtwo Y is the platinum standard.

PvE verdict: S-Tier. Mega Mewtwo Y is the top raid attacker in Pokémon GO and a must-have for serious raiders.

The Iron Snake Pokémon: Steelix→Mega Steelix

Mega Steelix leans heavily into bulk over damage. As a Steel and Ground type, it brings a useful defensive profile with many resistances, which can help it stay on the field longer and keep the Mega Boost active. However, its offensive presence in raids is underwhelming.

Its best Steel type moveset of Iron Tail and Heavy Slam simply does not generate enough damage to compete with Top Steel Attackers, and it does not register as a meaningful Ground attacker at all. In practice, this means Mega Steelix is more of a bulky support option than a damage dealer. It can be serviceable for Trainers who need a durable Steel Mega and lack better alternatives, but it is easily outclassed by other meta Steel types.

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Very close to being a C-Tier. Mega Steelix is bulky but outclassed.

The Armor Bird Pokémon: Skarmory→Mega Skarmory

Mega Skarmory has 273 Attack, 228 Defense, and ten resistances including double resistance to Bug, Grass and Poison giving it a viable overall profile. However, as a Steel attacker, it performs decently but not strong enough to be among the Best Steel Attackers. Its damage is below Shadow Dialga and behind regular options such as Metagross. Unlike other top Steel attackers, Mega Skarmory uses Flash Cannon, which is a modest Charged Attack at best.

Mega Skarmory’s Flying role is way more useful. Mega Skarmory has double resistance to Bug, Grass and Poison type damage, alongside high Defense and the Mega Boost for allies. It also has a strong Charged Attack in Drill Peck+.

Mega Skarmory has established itself among the Top-5 Flying attackers currently in the game. It is now a solid budget Flying option, especially against Bug and Grass raid bosses, although Mega Rayquaza remains a stronger Flying choice.

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Very close to being an A-Tier but unfortunately outclassed by other Mega Evolutions.

The Iron Armor Pokémon: Aggron→Mega Aggron

Mega Aggron is another Steel type that prioritizes defense and hence, it struggles to make a dent in high-level raids. Although it does perform better than Mega Steelix, it is still far down in Steel rankings well behind the likes of Mega Metagross and Mega Lucario. It does not offer meaningful coverage outside of Steel and its damage profile is too low to justify using it when stronger options exist.

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Mega Aggron is a defensive Mega that is outclassed by several other attackers.

The Face Pokémon: Glalie→Mega Glalie

Mega Glalie comes up as the second best Ice Mega currently available, behind Mega Abomasnow which would have been excellent if not for the fact that there are only two Ice type Megas in Pokémon GO.

While Mega Glalie does have a slightly higher DPS, in overall performance it just trails behind Mega Abomasnow and it certainly does not surpass the Top Ice Attackers in the game like Shadow Mamoswine or Baxcalibur. 

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Just use Mega Abomasnow.

The Brutal Pokémon: Sharpedo→Mega Sharpedo

Mega Sharpedo is a Water and Dark Pokémon that tries to cover two roles but does not excel in either. Its Dark type damage is respectable but falls short of meta-defining Dark Attackers like Mega Houndoom and Mega Tyranitar. As a Water attacker, it is similarly outclassed by Mega Swampert, Mega Blastoise, and other Top Water types. It lacks the damage ceiling to justify regular use in optimized raid teams. Mega Sharpedo can work as a budget Dark or Water Mega for newer Trainers, but it should be considered a temporary option.

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Mega Sharpedo is usable but is outclassed by stronger Megas.

The Eruption Pokémon: Camerupt→Mega Camerupt

Mega Camerupt is a Fire and Ground type that struggles to find a niche in the raid meta. Its Fire type damage is middling at best, and it ranks well outside the Top Fire attackers. As a [round] attacker, it performs slightly better but still lags behind Best Ground types like Mega Garchomp. The dual typing gives it some useful resistances along with a double weakness to Water attakers, but its overall damage output is too low to make it a priority. Mega Camerupt can be best viewed as a collection piece.

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Very close to being a C-Tier. Mega Camerupt is outclassed as a raid attacker and is not recommended for serious raiding.

The Rabbit Pokémon: Lopunny→Mega Lopunny

Mega Lopunny is a Normal and Fighting type that offers decent damage but faces stiff competition in both roles. Its Normal moveset of Pound and Shadow Ball provides decent neutral coverage, but it is outclassed by Top Normal Attackers and other generalists. Normal types are anyways irrelevant when it comes to PvE as they aren’t super-effective against any other types. As a Fighting attacker, it is similarly overshadowed by Mega Falinks, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Lucario. Its main strength is its unique typing which can help Trainers gain XL candy boost in certain niche scenarios, but outside of that, it doesn’t dominate any meta relevant role. 

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Mega Lopunny is a unique Mega but struggles to find any meta relevance.

The Formation Pokémon: Falinks→Mega Falinks

Mega Falinks has an appealing stat profile, with 267 Attack and a max CP of 4149, but its moveset of Counter and Superpower prevents it from becoming a leading Fighting raid attacker. Well, not anymore because now it has got access to Brick Break+.

There is more than a 5-point difference in DPS for Mega Falinks with and without Brick Break+. Its overall output is now comparable to Keldeo (Resolute Forme), which makes it respectable and clearly within the top end of the Fighting meta. The problem however is the Mega slot. Mega Falinks must compete against Mega Blaziken, Mega Lucario and Mega Mewtwo X, all of which are significantly stronger Fighting options. It is usable, but there is little practical reason to prioritize it over those alternatives.

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Very close to being an A-Tier. Not a priority build. Raid a few for the collection.

The Atrocious Pokémon: Gyarados→Mega Gyarados

Mega Gyarados is a Water and Dark type that brings a mix of damage and bulk. Its Water type damage is strong enough to be relevant, but it is outclassed by Top Water Megas like Mega Swampert and Mega Blastoise.

As a Dark attacker, its performance dips even further, overshadowed by not only by Top Dark Attackers like Mega Houndoom and Mega Tyranitar, but even Mega Salamence. Where Mega Gyarados shines is survivability. It can take hits and stay in battle longer than many frailer Megas, which helps maintain the Mega Boost for teammates. For Trainers who value durability and need a reliable Water or Dark Mega Pokémon, Mega Gyarados is a solid, if not elite, choice.

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Very close to being an A-Tier. Mega Gyarados is bulky and reliable but better options are available.

The Fossil Pokémon: Aerodactyl→Mega Aerodactyl

Mega Aerodactyl is a standout Rock and Flying Pokémon that deserves serious attention. Even though it’s a Flying type, Mega Aerodactyl doesn’t have any Flying type attacks in its arsenal. What it does have is Rock Throw and Rock Slide and with these moves, it ranks among the very best Rock Attackers in the game.

Mega Aerodactyl’s damage output is high enough to make it a top pick against certain raid bosses and its Flying typing gives it useful resistance against Ground types. Mega Tyranitar and the not very accessible Mega Diancie do perform better but Mega Aerodactyl is accessible, powerful and versatile, making it one of the best value Megas for Trainers who raid frequently.

PvE verdict: A-Tier. Very close to being a S-Tier. Mega Aerodactyl is one of the better Mega Evolutions in Pokémon GO.

The Dragon Pokémon: Dragonite→Mega Dragonite

Mega Dragonite has a strong Dragon moveset, 299 Attack and excellent bulk, making it capable of contributing effectively in high-tier raids. Dragon Tail with Outrage+ offers its strongest Dragon damage.

With Outrage+, Mega Dragonite swooshes in among the Best Dragon Attackers, though it still trails Mega Rayquaza. However, it now performs better than Mega Salamence, atleast until Mega Salamence gets its own new Mega Charged Attack. As a Flying Attacker, Mega Dragonite is even behind the likes of Shadow Honchkrow and Galarian Moltres. Unfortunately for Mega Dragonite though, it has to compete with Mega Rayquaza and Mega Salamence, both of which outperform it in the Flying department.

PvE verdict: A-Tier. Very close to being a S-Tier. Usable and powerful, but outclassed. Build it for preference or as a backup Mega rather than as a top priority.

The Humming Pokémon: Altaria→Mega Altaria

Mega Altaria is a Dragon and Fairy type that leans more toward defense than offense. Its Fairy type damage with Dragon Breath into Dazzling Gleam is not very high and is easily outclassed by Top Fairy Attackers like Mega Gardevoir and Xerneas. As a Dragon attacker, it does not even register as a meaningful option. Mega Altaria’s main strength is its unique typing, which lends it an incredible 8 different resistances. For Trainers who need a durable Fairy Mega and lack better options, Mega Altaria is a reasonable pick.

PvE verdict: B-Tier. Mega Altaria is more like a temporary back-up option rather than a main pick.

The Mouse Pokémon: Raichu→Mega Raichu X & Y

Mega Raichu Y is the clear standout of the two, with an extraordinary 339 Attack that places it among the strongest Mega Evolutions and Legendaries in the game. Its offensive power makes it a top-tier Electric attacker. Its counterpart, Mega Raichu X is bulkier and can sustain the Mega Boost for longer, but the gap in their Attack stat translates directly into a DPS difference. Mega Raichu Y is currently #1 Electric attacker in Pokémon GO. Mega Raichu X performs respectably, trailing just behind its counterpart in terms of DPS.

Both Mega Raichu X & Y can be used in raids, especially now that they respectively have access to Volt Tackle+ and Zap Cannon+, and are easier to power up than many high-end Electric options. But when both Mega Evolutions share the same typing (unlike Mega Mewtwo and Mega Charizard), Mega Raichu Y is the definitive choice for serious PvE play.

PvE verdict: S-Tier for Mega Raichu Y, A-Tier for Mega Raichu X. Both Mega Evolutions are strong and comparatively easier to power-up but Mega Raichu Y is the clear winner.

The Darkness Pokémon: Sableye→Mega Sableye

Mega Sableye is a Dark and Ghost type that struggles to make an impact in raids. Its Ghost type damage is too low to compete with Top Ghost Attackers like Mega Gengar and Mega Banette and as a Dark attackers, its performance drops even lower. The less said about it the better!

PvE verdict: C-Tier. Mega Sableye is not recommended for raid battles due to its low damage output.

The Deceiver Pokémon: Mawile→Mega Mawile

Mega Mawile is a Steel and Fairy type that also struggles to make a dent in raids. Its Fairy type damage is middling at best, and it ranks well outside the top Fairy attackers. As a Steel attacker, it ranks outside of Top-130. Just like Mega Sableye, the less said the better!

PvE verdict: C-Tier. Mega Mawile is not recommended for raid battles due to its low damage output.

The Hearing Pokémon: Audino→Mega Audino

Mega Audino is a Normal and Fairy type Mega that, just like Mega Sableye and Mega Mawile, struggles to make an impact in raids. Its Fairy damage is too low to compete with top Fairy attackers like it does not register as a meaningful Normal attacker. Its bulk is excellent, but its damage ceiling is simply too low to justify investing any resources.

PvE verdict: C-Tier. Just raid Mega Raichu Y during the hour.

PvE Tier List and Parting Words

We have now reached the end of our PvE analysis and here is the final tier list:

• S-Tier: Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Raichu Y.
• A-Tier: Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Dragonite.
• B-Tier: Mega Steelix, Mega Skarmory, Mega Aggron, Mega Glalie, Mega Sharpedo, Mega Camerupt, Mega Lopunny, Mega Falinks, Mega Gyarados and Mega Altaria. 
• C-Tier: Mega Sableye, Mega Mawile and Mega Audino.

Not every Mega Evolution is built for the same job. If your goal is raw raid damage, Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Raichu Y are the clear standouts. These two should be your priority if you are investing resources for long-term raid performance.

For Trainers who want solid, type-specific Megas without chasing the absolute meta peak, Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Dragonite, Mega Skarmory, Mega Glalie, Mega Falinks and Mega Gyarados are your options. On the other end of the spectrum, Mega Steelix, Mega Aggron, Mega Sharpedo, Mega Altaria, Mega Camerupt and Mega Lopunny can fill gaps if you are just starting out or lack better alternatives, but they are consistently outclassed by other Megas and even several non-Mega attackers. Mega Sableye, Mega Mawile, and Mega Audino fall into the collection category: they look great in your dex, but their damage output is too low to recommend for serious raiding.

Trainers, now is the best time to seriously consider raiding as many Mega Evolutions as possible. With the new Mega Charged Attacks in play and Mega Evolutions now being eligible in GBL, there has never been more spotlight on Mega evolved Pokémon. If Scopely plays it right, which I believe they will, every Mega Evolution is going to get an opportunity to shine in the meta either in PvE or in PvP.
