This article takes a close, practical look at Mega Evolutions that are featured on Day 1 of Mega Finale, breaking down what they bring to the table, where they shine and what tier list they currently belong to. So Trainers, let’s hop in!
The following Pokémon will appear in Mega Raids on Saturday:

Mega Mewtwo X is, without exaggeration, one of the most powerful raid attackers in Pokémon GO. With a staggering Max CP of 6910 and an Attack stat of 399, it is built to dominate. We have already seen how powerful Mega Mewtwo X was in the meta during Pokémon GO Fest 2026, but now with access to Dynamic Punch+, it has gone even further beyond. Using our DPS Comparer Tool:

Just have a look at the DPS difference that Dynamic Punch+ brings into the picture. If there was ever any doubt about the dominance of Mega Mewtwo X in the Fighting meta, they have now been put to rest. What makes Mega Mewtwo X truly special is its versatility. It functions as both the #1 Fighting-type Attacker and the #2 Psychic-type Attacker, just behind its fellow brethren Mega Mewtwo Y. If, for some reason, any Trainer had missed out on Mega Mewtwo X during the Go Fest, this is an excellent opportunity to do several Mega Mewtwo X raids and collect the required resources needed to build a solid addition to your raid roster. Mega Mewtwo X is strong, hits like a truck and provides a Mega Boost to both Fighting and Psychic allies.
PvE verdict: S-Tier. For trainers who can secure it, Mega Mewtwo X is not just a top-tier option—it is the gold standard.

Mega Beedrill is one of those Megas that punches way above its weight class. It is a Bug and Poison type with solid Attack stat, and absolutely stings like a bee in raids. Mega Beedrill was not the best Bug raid attacker, but with the upcoming Mega Squads Event, Mega Beedrill will get access to Fell Stinger+.

Fell Stinger+ allows Mega Beedrill to function as currently the #1 Bug Attacker, dishing out damage fast and consistently. The only problem is the lack of relevance that Bug types have in the overall meta. Anything that a Bug type can do, some other type can do it more efficiently. On the Poison side, Mega Beedrill runs Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb, which may not sound flashy, but the numbers back it up. It ranks among the very Best Poison Attackers in the game, sitting comfortably in the upper echelons of the meta. However, Mega Victreebel and Mega Gengar do perform better than Mega Beedrill as Poison raid attackers, which does affect its overall relevance.
PvE verdict: A-Tier. Very close to being a S-Tier. Mega Beedrill is accessible, relatively easier to power-up and for Trainers that are on a budget, it is a reliable and high-impact Mega.

Mega Victreebel is a worthwhile PvE investment among these new Mega Evolutions. With 265 Attack and a Max CP of 3963, it can operate as both Grass and Poison type raid attacker. Its dual-role utility, accessible nature, decent stats, and Mega Boost make it a practical option for players seeking value from one build.
As a Grass attacker, Mega Victreebel is a strong option and compares favourably with established meta Grass types. It is currently #10 among Top Grass Attackers. Its preferred Fast Attack, Magical Leaf, is a legacy move; Razor Leaf remains a close alternative for players without it. Its Poison performance is even more attractive, thanks to the new Charged Attack Acid Spray+. Using our DPS Comparer Tool to compare its performance with Top Poison Attackers:

As we can see, Acid Spray+ has really lifted Mega Victreebel’s performance as a Poison attacker. The difference in DPS with and without Acid Spray+ is quite evident. Since no legacy move is required for this role, the same Razor Leaf Victreebel can cover both Grass and Poison raid teams.
PvE verdict: S-Tier. Mega Victreebel is a worthwhile, budget-friendly Mega with two useful offensive roles.

Mega Pinsir looks intimidating with its massive horn and impressive Max CP, but when it comes to actual raid performance, it is more of a background character. As a pure Bug type, it has a straightforward role, but it faces stiff competition from other Bug Megas that simply outperform it.
The problem is not that Mega Pinsir is bad; it is just that there are better options. Mega Beedrill with Fell Stinger+ and Mega Heracross, both outperform it and as Trainers can only have one Mega Evolution at a time, Mega Pinsir becomes a back-up option.
PvE verdict: B-Tier. Mega Pinsir is a fun Dex entry and a solid-looking Mega, but is unfortunately outclassed by other Megas.

Mega Abomasnow is a Grass and Ice type that tries to do two jobs at once, but unfortunately, it does not excel at either. The issue is that the Ice and Grass metas are both dominated by heavy hitters that leave Mega Abomasnow in the dust.

As an Ice attacker, Mega Abomasnow barely doesn’t make it within Top-10 Ice Attackers, outclassed by the likes of Shadow Mamoswine and Baxcalibur. But, when it comes to Ice type Megas, it currently is the best, outperforming Mega Glalie. In the Grass raid department, Mega Venusaur, Mega Sceptile, and Mega Chesnaught are far superior choices, with Mega Abomasnow languishing among lower-tier Grass-type Attackers.
PvE verdict: B-Tier. Mega Abomasnow is accessible and has a nice dual typing, but it is outclassed in both roles.

Mega Alakazam is the definition of a glass cannon. It has one of the highest Attack stats in the game, and when you pair that with its Psychic typing, you get a raid monster that melts through opposing raid bosses. Its best moveset is Confusion and Psychic, which may seem simple, but the damage output is exceptional, making it one of the Best Psychic Attackers in the game.

Mega Alakazam is fragile. It does not have the bulk to survive long in high-level raids, and it will faint more often than tankier Megas. However, if you are playing with a group or you are confident in your dodging, the raw DPS it brings is hard to ignore. However, Trainers may have realized that the real problem with Mega Alakazam is that it has to compete directly with Mega Mewtwo X & Y, and that is a fight that no one can win.
PvE verdict: A-Tier. Very close to being a S-Tier. Mega Alakazam, by its own is a very strong Mega. But with Mega Mewtwo being so readily available, it comes up second-best.

Mega Slowbro is the opposite of Mega Alakazam in many ways. It is bulky, resilient, and built to last. As a Water and Psychic type, it has a wide range of resistances that allow it to stay in battle longer and maintain the Mega Boost for extended periods.

While Mega Slowbro is not going to top any DPS charts its bulk means it can handle hits that would knock out frailer Megas. Mega Slowbro is a great choice for trainers who are short on Potions and Revives and want a dependable, budget and bulky Mega. Outside of that, it doesn’t have a lot of meta play with several better options available for Trainers to consider.
PvE verdict: B-Tier. Usable but better options available.

Mega Starmie enters the competition with a 276 Attack and a max CP of 4184. These stats are good for a Water type and decent for a Psychic type, but Mega Starmie enters two extremely competitive raid categories. As a Water attacker, it is grouped among ultra-powered Water Attackers like Primal Kyogre and Hydro Cannon Mega Evolutions. With access to Liquidation+, Mega Starmie truly shines like a star, making waves in the Water raid meta.

Mega Starmie, perhaps got the best improvement in its performance with these new Mega Charged Attacks. But its timing could not have been worse as Mega Greninja has already surpassed it. However, as Mega Greninja’s accessibility currently is limited, for now, Mega Starmie has a strong spot in the Water meta. Sadly for Mega Starmie, it is also heavily outclassed as a Psychic attacker where it has to straight up compete with Mewtwo and its Mega Evolutions. Yeah! No one is winning that match-up!
PvE verdict: A-Tier. A budget but strong Mega Evolution, until Mega Greninja is more readily available.

Mega Medicham is a Fighting and Psychic type that may sound exciting on paper, but in practice, it struggles to find a place in the raid meta. As a Fighting raid attackers its overall output is low compared to other Fighting Megas. As a Psychic attacker, it is even weaker, with moves like Psycho Cut and Psychic failing to make a significant impact. Mega Medicham is surrounded by giants: Mega Blaziken, Mega Lucario, Mega Alakazam and Mega Mewtwo X & Y all outperform it in their respective roles, leaving Mega Medicham as a worthless pick.
PvE verdict: B-Tier. Very Close to being a C-Tier. Even its dual typing is the same as Mega Mewtwo X, leaving it at best a collection piece.

Mega Gengar is a fan favorite for a reason. Just like its rival, Mega Alakazam, Mega Gengar has one of the highest Attack stats in the game, and when you pair that with its Ghost and Poison typing, you get a raid monster that can tear through raid bosses with ease.

Mega Gengar ranks among the Top Ghost Attackers in the game, competing directly with the best in the meta. Its Poison typing gives it additional coverage, ranking just behind Mega Victreebel among Top Poison Attackers, though its Ghost performance is the primary draw. The downside is that Mega Gengar is fragile, much like Mega Alakazam, and it will faint frequently in high-level raids. However, the damage it brings is so high that many trainers consider it worth the risk.
PvE verdict: S-Tier. For raiders seeking top-tier Mega Evolution, Mega Gengar is one of the best options available.

Mega Houndoom is a Dark and Fire type that excels as a Dark raid attacker, thanks to Dark Pulse+, which it will gain access to during the Mega Squads Event. Running a moveset of Snarl and Dark Pulse+ gives it incredible damage output and energy efficiency. This combination allows Mega Houndoom to rank as the number #1 Dark Attacker in the game, outperforming even Mega Tyranitar.

On the Fire side, Mega Houndoom doesn’t perform as well. It is at best a mid-tier Fire Attacker, trailing even the likes of Heatran and Shadow Typhlosion, not to mention the other Fire Megas like Mega Delphox, Mega Charizard X & Y and Mega Blaziken. However, its dual typing gives it a wide range of resistances. It is accessible and versatile, making it a valuable addition to any raid team.
PvE verdict: S-Tier. Atleast for now. For trainers looking for a top-tier Dark attacker Mega Houndoom is an excellent choice.

Mega Banette is a pure Ghost type that brings solid damage to the table but sadly, still has to live in the shadow of Mega Gengar. Whatever Mega Banette can do, Mega Gengar can do better. Mega Banette’s case is similar to Mega Alakazam’s. A solid Mega Evolution, but outclassed by an even better one. Its only upside: Doesn’t take super-effective damage from Psychic type attacks.
PvE verdict: A-Tier. Not the best, but close enough.

Mega Malamar does not make a meaningful impact in PvE despite its unusual Dark Psychic typing. Its 208 Attack and average moveset leave it behind major attackers in both of its offensive categories. It also lacks a Dark type Fast Attack, which particularly damages its potential as a Dark raid attacker.
Psywave and Psybeam+ give Mega Malamar a Psychic moveset, but its raid performance remains far behind the leading Psychic options, even with its new Charged Attack.

While the imrpovement in Mega Malamar’s performance is massive with Psybeam+, it is still not enough for it to compete with Top Psychic Attackers. Its Dark type output is also not enough to approach the strongest choices among Dark types. Mega Malamar is therefore best considered a Dex entry, with its unique typing and Dark Psychic Candy XL boost being its only notable utility in niche situations.
PvE verdict: B-Tier. Primarily a Pokédex and collection Mega. Its unique typing and Candy XL bonus are nice extras.

Mega Raichu Y is the clear standout of the two, with an extraordinary 339 Attack that places it among the strongest Mega Evolutions and Legendaries in the game. Its offensive power makes it a top-tier Electric attacker. Its counterpart, Mega Raichu X is bulkier and can sustain the Mega Boost for longer, but the gap in their Attack stat translates directly into a DPS difference. Mega Raichu Y is currently #1 Electric attacker in Pokémon GO. Mega Raichu X performs respectably, trailing just behind its counterpart in terms of DPS.

Both Mega Raichu X & Y can be used in raids, especially now that they respectively have access to Volt Tackle+ and Zap Cannon+, and are easier to power up than many high-end Electric options. But when both Mega Evolutions share the same typing (unlike Mega Mewtwo and Mega Charizard), Mega Raichu Y is the definitive choice for serious PvE play.
PvE verdict: S-Tier for Mega Raichu Y, A-Tier for Mega Raichu X. Both Mega Evolutions are strong and comparatively easier to power-up but Mega Raichu Y is the clear winner.

Mega Ampharos is an Electric and Dragontype that prioritizes bulk and consistency over raw DPS. While it struggles as a Dragon attacker, it perfroms decently as an Electric attacker, though it is outclassed by Mega Raichu X & Y and Mega Manectric in terms of DPS.

What Mega Ampharos brings to the table is survivability. It has high HP and Defense stat, which means it can take hits and stay in battle longer than frailer Electric Megas. This makes it a great choice for trainers who want a reliable Electric Mega that does not require constant reviving.
PvE verdict: B-Tier. For Trainers who lack stronger options, Mega Ampharos is a reliable back-up pick.

Mega Manectric is an Electric type that strikes a balance between power and efficiency. Although it has a lower attack stat than Mega Ampharos, it performs better simply because of having access to a better moveset of Thunder Fang and Wild Charge. This combination allows Mega Manectric to rank currently at #9 among the Top Electric attackers, though still trailing Mega Raichu X & Y.
PvE verdict: B-Tier. Very close to being an A-Tier. Mega Manectric is in an akward position where it is better than Mega Ampharos but not as good as Mega Raichu X & Y.

We have now reached the end of our PvE analysis and here is the final tier list:
- S-Tier: Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Gengar, Mega Houndoom and Mega Victreebel
- A-Tier: Mega Beedrill, Mega Alakazam, Mega Banette, Mega Starmie and Mega Raichu X
- B-Tier: Mega Pinsir, Mega Abomasnow, Mega Slowbro, Mega Medicham, Mega Ampharos, Mega Manectric and Mega Malamar
When it comes to Mega Evolutions for raids, not all of them are created equal. Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Gengar, Mega Houndoom, and Mega Victreebel stand out as the top investments, offering elite performance in their respective types. These are the Megas you want to prioritize if you are serious about raiding.
Mega Alakazam, Mega Beedrill, Mega Raichu X, Mega Starmie and Mega Banette provide strong back-up coverage, perfect for new Trainers or for Trainers looking to try some new variations in their raid teams. Mega Pinsir, Mega Abomasnow, Mega Manectric, Mega Ampharos and Mega Slowbro are usable but outclassed while Mega Malamar and Mega Medicham are best left as collection pieces.
Trainers, now is the best time to seriously consider raiding as many Mega Evolutions as possible. With the new Mega Charged Attacks in play and Mega Evolutions now being eligible in GBL, there has never been more spotlight on Mega evolved Pokémon. If Scopely plays it right, which I believe they will, every Mega Evolution is going to get an opportunity to shine in the meta either in PvE or in PvP.
And as always, stay safe! Happy Raiding Trainers! May everyone get a BG Shundo!
