Trainers! To celebrate the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on the 18th November for the Nintendo Switch, new avatar items inspired by the games main characters will be available in Pokémon GO!
These avatar items will be available to all trainers starting on 18th November 2022.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet bring with them the 9th Generation of Pokémon, and a journey to the brand new region of Paldea. The game will be open world, similar to Pokémon Legends Arceus, giving a whole new experience for Pokémon trainers. We’ve had a huge amount of teasers that have introduced new Pokémon, regionals, and even new evolutions for existing Pokémon!

So far we’ve met:
- Sprigatito
- Fuecoco
- Quaxley
- Ceruledge
- Armarouge
- Klawf
- Grafaiai
- Farigiraf (evolution of Girafarig)
- Wiglett (not a regional version of Diglett, but a whole new Pokémon that happens to share similarities to Diglett! Also known as a convergent species)
- Gimmighoul, who has been spotted in GO, following us in game when we spin golden PokéStops and collect coins
- A new Paldean regional form of Wooper
- Cetitan
- Fidough
- Bellibolt
- Greavard
- Smoliv
- Lechonk
- Pawmi
- Miraidon, the legendary exclusive to Pokémon Violet
- Koraidon, the legendary exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet
Many other Pokémon have been teased, and we also know that the Bagon Family and Eiscue will be exclusive to Violet, whereas the Larvitar family and Stonjourner will be exclusive to Scarlet.

The games will also introduce a brand new concept, Terastalized Pokémon. With Terastallizing Pokémon can take on any typing! The Terastal Phenomenon is this generation’s gimmick (similar to Dynamax of Sword and Shield or Mega Evolution of X and Y). Terastallizing Pokémon will change its type according to its Tera type while also boosting moves of the same Tera type. You can only use Terastallize once per match. Once it is used, it must be recharged via Pokémon Center or crystals with Terastal energy. To get Pokémon with rare Tera Types, you will need to catch them in Tera Raid Battles. Similar to Dynamax Raid Battles, you and up to three other Trainers will battle a Terastrallized Pokémon, but this time, you can attack and heal at your own pace, without waiting on your allies. It will be very interesting to see if/how this may one day makes its way into Pokémon GO!

Will you be playing these additions to the main series? Have you chosen your Starter Pokémon yet? Let us know your picks in the comments! We’re hyped for a whole new generation of Pokémon!
