Greetings, Trainers! It’s GO Fest season, which means we’re in one of the most exciting times of the year for Pokémon GO. And with the game celebrating its anniversary, the sheer volume of new content is absolutely off the charts. Still, even with everything GO Fest has to offer, nothing comes close to the hype surrounding the one and only Mewtwo and its Mega Evolutions. These long-awaited powerhouses are finally set to make their in-game debut, beginning with the in-person GO Fest events in Tokyo, followed by Chicago, Copenhagen, and eventually GO Fest Global.
Naturally, Trainers everywhere are holding their breath and stocking up on Raid Passes for a chance to add this elusive Legendary to their collection. But beyond the excitement and prestige, one big question remains: How will Mega Mewtwo perform in the PvE meta? Let’s take a closer look.

Mewtwo is a Legendary Psychic type Pokémon that first appeared in Generation I. It has two Mega Evolutions, each with their own distinct stats and typing. Mega Mewtwo X becomes a dual Psychic Fighting type Pokémon, and Mega Mewtwo Y remains a pure Psychic type. Because base Mewtwo and Mega Mewtwo Y share the same typing, they also share the exact same defensive profile. Mega Mewtwo X, however, changes things by gaining a secondary Fighting type. That shift alters its weaknesses and resistances, replacing its Bug and Dark type weaknesses with weaknesses to and Fairy attacks. At the same time, its resistance to Psychic type attacks is traded for a resistance to Rock attacks.
Shiny Mewtwo Family
Mewtwo has been one of Pokémon GO’s most reliable PvE powerhouse for years, and for good reason. With its exceptionally high Attack stat and a versatile moveset, it has consistently stood out not just as one of the game’s top Psychic raid attacker, but also as a powerful generalist capable of performing well in a wide range of matchups. Because of that already impressive foundation, it’s only natural for Trainers to expect even greater things from its Mega Evolutions. And rightly so! Both Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y elevate Mewtwo’s raid potential even further, transforming an already elite attacker into something even more devastating on the battlefield. Using our DPS Comparer Tool:

It’s evidently clear that Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y sit comfortably above every other Psychic attacker in the game. Among the two, Mega Mewtwo Y pulls ahead, and a quick look at their stats makes the reason obvious. With its stronger offensive profile, Mega Mewtwo Y simply delivers better overall performance than its X counterpart in the Psychic attacker role.
What makes this even more impressive is just how dominant Mewtwo is as a species. It’s not only the Mega Evolutions leading the charts, but Shadow Mewtwo and even regular Mewtwo also remain among the top Psychic attackers. That kind of presence is rare and highlights just how valuable Mewtwo continues to be in Pokémon GO’s raid meta. For Trainers, this creates a huge opportunity during GO Fest events. It is well worth taking advantage of the chance to hunt for multiple high-IV specimens while also farming large amounts of regular Candy and XL Candy. On top of that, Mewtwo gaining access to Counter during the event adds even more value, giving players another reason to invest in grinding raids while the opportunity is available. Again going back to our trusted DPS Comparer Tool:

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y both leave a strong impression among the top Fighting raid attackers, but this time, Mega Mewtwo X comes out on top. Thanks to its secondary Fighting typing, it gains a clear edge in this category and firmly claims the lead. That said, Mega Mewtwo Y is not far behind, still securing a place within the top five and proving that its raw power remains incredibly valuable.
When you look at their performance across both the Psychic and Fighting type roles, it becomes obvious just how dominant Mega Mewtwo X and Y are in raids. The most straightforward way to use them is simple: Mega Mewtwo X excels as a Fighting type raid attacker, while Mega Mewtwo Y stands out as a Psychic type powerhouse. Still, their value goes far beyond those basic roles. With exceptional stats and access to a wide range of moves, both forms can fit into several different raid scenarios, experiment with multiple move combinations, and even perform well as high-powered generalists. Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y are more than just type specialists — they are versatile offensive heavyweights that can thrive in almost any battle setup.
Without a doubt, Yes!
Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y are the kind of PvE investments you make without overthinking it. Mega Mewtwo Y is flat-out the best Psychic attacker in the game, while Mega Mewtwo X takes over as an elite Fighting type powerhouse. Between the two of them, you are looking at a pair of absurdly strong Megas that can instantly upgrade almost any raid roster. If you can only focus on one, Mega Mewtwo Y is probably the safer first pick. It hits ridiculously hard, dominates the Psychic role, and brings the kind of raw damage output that is useful in a huge number of raid matchups. Mega Mewtwo X is no slouch either, though, and if you want a top-tier Fighting attacker, it is about as good as it gets.
The only real catch is the cost. Building either form properly is going to take a lot of regular Mewtwo Candy, XL Candy, and Mega Energy, so this is definitely a high-end investment. But unlike some expensive builds that feel niche, Mega Mewtwo gives you real value back. These are not just strong for now; they are the kind of Pokémon that can stay relevant for a very long time.
So yes, both Mega Mewtwo are absolutely worth building. If you can grind the raids, stock up on resources, and put in the investment, both X and Y will reward you in a big way.
Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y have arrived, and they look every bit like the raid-dominating monsters Trainers were hoping for. Mega Mewtwo Y is poised to take over as the undisputed king of Psychic attackers, while Mega Mewtwo X brings overwhelming strength as a top-tier Fighting powerhouse. With stats this absurd and a legacy as strong as Mewtwo’s, it is no surprise that these two stand out as some of the most exciting and impactful additions to Pokémon GO’s PvE meta.
If you have been hoarding Raid Passes, Rare Candy and XL Candy for the right moment, this is it. Mega Mewtwo is not just another flashy release — it is the kind of investment that can seriously elevate your raid roster for the long haul. Whether you are grinding for high-IV catches, farming Mega Energy, or preparing resources for both forms, this is one GO Fest opportunity that feels worth pushing hard for.
