Pokémon Day is coming soon! Every year on February 27, we celebrate Pokémon Day, the “birth day” of the series.
Last year’s Pokémon Day brought us several announcements on the gaming field, with the DLC for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, Pokémon Sleep, a new Netflix series, Pokémon Concierge the TV series, Paldea coming to Pokémon GO and more.
So… What can we expect from Pokémon Day 2024? Rumors and potential leaks have been surfacing on the Internet in recent weeks, with speculation running wild.
a lot of this article is speculation While we know there will be a Pokémon Presents on the day, we don’t know what it will announce. The only confirmed event is Empire State Building celebrating Pokémon Day, but take all the “leaks” and “rumors” discussed here with a grain of salt.
What are you hoping for on Pokémon Day?
A New Mythical for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Do you think Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are really over? There is a lot of speculation that it might not be.
The latest mythical Pokémon released for the game was Pecharunt. If you don’t know Pecharunt, it’s the mythical released in the epilogue ‘Mochi Mayhem’ that was dropped in January. It’s a Poison and Ghost type little Pokémon, often viewed as the leader of the Loyal Three.
According to some leakers, probably Pecharunt is not the last mythical for the games. A viable leaker has been teasing another new mythical is coming soon, as the protagonist of a new movie.
Something similar happened with Zarude, announced on Pokémon Day back in 2020 as the protagonist of the 23rd Pokémon movie, Secret of the Jungle. Zarude is the only mythical of Sword and Shield.
Currently there is no evidence, and no teasers from the Pokémon Company themselves, but it is not too Farfetch’d to think we could get a new surprise mythical soon. Excitingly, this could also mean a new movie!
A New Game – Pokémon Let’s Go 2 Johto? Unova Remakes?
Lately the most discussed online “next Pokémon games” are the remakes of Pokémon Black and Pokémon White. The fifth generation is over 13 years old, so it’s time to bring it back.
Pokémon fans are hoping it will be either a remake or another sequel (Pokémon Black 3 and Pokémon White 3, maybe?), with some leakers talking a lot about the games that take place in Unova. And do you know what else takes place in Unova? Indigo Disk, the second part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.
There’s a lot of subtle hints about Pokémon Black and White in Scarlet and Violet, but the Blueberry Academy and some of the characters that are part of it and have important roles in the game are, undoubtedly, the major ones.
Why else the Empire State Building would be celebrating Pokémon Day? Unova draws direct inspiration from New York and the surround metropolitan area!
Another game that has been talked about on forums and such are the potentials for sequels to Pokémon Let’s GO Pikachu and Let’s GO Eevee, with a focus on the Johto region. The Let’s GO games were incredibly popular, and many players want to see a sequel to them. There are two rumours surrounding this, Pokémon Let’s GO 2 Johto, with just one version, or similarly to Let’s GO Pikachu and Eevee, two more titles with a focus on two popular Pokémon mascots from the region.
The mascots for these rumoured games are allegedly Togepi and Wooper, giving the games the titles Pokémon Let’s GO Togepi and Pokémon Let’s GO Wooper.
There is a post spreading around the Internet with logos and lots of information about the so-called Let’s GO remakes of the second generation. Also, the little Water and Ground Wooper is getting a lot of love lately, so it would be a great mascot for a Johto remake.
If a new game is indeed announced on February 27th, these are our bets.
Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow on Nintendo Switch
Several Pokémon spin-offs are available to play on Nintendo Switch via a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, such as Pokémon Trading Card Game, from Game Boy Color, the Nintendo 64’s exclusives Pokémon Snap, Pokémon Puzzle League, Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2.
With all that nostalgia feeling we’ve been embracing lately, we need some of the earlier games on Nintendo Switch, don’t we?
First-gen games would be an amazing choice to be the first main series games available with the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. We don’t even need a new remake, just a port! Please, The Pokémon Company International! Give us Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow on Nintendo Switch!
Movie and Series News
We haven’t have a new Pokémon movie since 2020, when Zarude was announced via The Secrets of the Jungle movie.
And as we mentioned before, a new movie could be announced, with a new mythical being introduced. With Paradox Forms, time travel and terastalizing, Scarlet and Violet’s lore has a lot to explore and to be made into a film. And it would be the first movie with the Paldea region as the main scenery!
When it comes to series, we probably won’t see the announcement of a brand new series, but we can expect news about “Pokémon Horizons: The Series”, which is scheduled to premiere in the US on March 7, 2024, exclusively on Netflix.
Pokémon: Concierge has already had a new series announced ahead of Pokémon Day, so perhaps we’ll get more info on that too! It was an adorable mini series that proved incredibly popular online, so we are pleased to see we’ll get more of it.
Pokémon GO: Arrival of Gen 9 Legendaries and New Ultra Beasts
Back in January, data miners found something pretty exciting: a lot of new sprites added to Pokémon GO, along with movesets for some Pokémon.
We are talking about four new Ultra Beasts – Poipole, their evolution Naganadel, Stakataka and Blacephalon, along with the mythical Pokémon Zeraora, and the legendary Pokémon discovered in Paldea – the quartet Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu and Chi-Yu, and the duo Koraidon and Miraidon.
Since the season of Timeless Travels ends a few days after Pokémon Day, can we see the announcement of the next season on Pokémon GO? All these Pokémon could be released in it, and it could tie in well with the Timeless Travels theme we’ve had this season, moving to the future, or past, depending on which Pokémon Niantic decide to focus on.
Remember: none of this is confirmed and these are just our speculations about Pokémon Day 2024. Stay tuned for an official announcement.
