Trainers, a lot has happened in the world of Pokemon GO! First, the Halloween event is now over and Research Breakthrough November and December 2019 features the Legendary Bird trio, Kyogre and Groudon. Second, there are new boxes in the store and we’re working on an analysis, so stay tuned for that. Kitsune is bussy with crunching numbers, but it should go out soon.
A Colossal Discovery takes place tomorrow, so we’re set to get some increased thematic Pokemon spawns Pokemon as well. Aside from that, there are a couple of interesting changes we did not expect, but all of them are equally exciting! Let’s dive in.
Regirock, Registeel and Regice can now learn Lock-On
Lock-On is a new Normal-type fast move that was secretly added to Pokemon GO. Lock-On stats are strange, but it is an incredible performer in PvP. Here are the stats, they’re the same for PvP and PvE:
Power | 1 |
Energy | +5 |
Duration | 0.3 seconds |
Lock-On can be TM-ed and it performs incredibly well in Trainer Battles. Unfortunately, as we were writing this article, Lock-On was nerfed, Energy generation was reduced to 5 from 6 energy per pop. It’s still excellent, but slightly less exciting than it was at first. It’s for the best, Registeel would become the ultimate cancer of the Great League otherwise.
You can see Lock-On in action here and you can check the rankings on PvPoke below:

Lock On has been updated from 6 energy per hit to 5! The Regis are still top picks but now much more in balance.https://t.co/5CdxrJdtKC pic.twitter.com/872jfABp1H

Our advice is to use a Fast TM and get Lock-On if you use Regis for PvP. What else would you use them for anyways? Be on the lookout for shiny Regis coming this weekend as well.
Regigigas movepool update

The old adage rises! Regigigas movepool was updated ahead of its release with 1 fast move change and a complete charge move revamp. Here’s what’s new:
Old move | New move |
---|---|
Zen Headbutt Psychic | Zen Headbutt Psychic |
Rock Smash Fighting | Hidden Power (multiple) |
Stone Edge Rock | Giga Impact Normal |
Avalanche Ice | Focus Blast Fighting |
Heavy Slam Steel | Thunder Electric |
Giga Impact stats were also updated and it looks like a scarily strong move.
Power | 200 |
Power (Trainer Battles) | 1150 |
Energy | -100 |
Energy (Trainer Battles) | -80 |
Duration | 4.7 seconds |
Giga Impact deals 50 more damage than Hyper Beam, but it lasts 0.9 seconds longer, so the it will take some simulation work to figure out how it stands there. Right now, only Regigigas can learn Giga Impact.
Shiny Skarmory is Live
We recently reported that Regigigas, Shiny Regi Trio and Shiny Skarmory are coming to Pokémon GO, and that time is now! Meet the rusty master of the Great League, bath in its glory and witness it’s magnificent color scheme. You can also check up on our Skarmory PvP Guide if you forgot just how awesome Skarmory is.

And of course, it was already caught somewhere in the world:

We look forward to shiny hunting it, but it will be a pain to get. The official blog post states that the following Pokemon will appear more frequently this weekend:
- The following Pokémon will be appearing more often in the wild: Geodude, Magnemite, Swinub, Aron, and Spheal.
- The following Pokémon will be hatching more often from Eggs: Aerodactyl, Shuckle, Sneasel, Skarmory, Snorunt, and Beldum.
- If you’re lucky, you might encounter Shiny Skarmory, Shiny Regirock, Shiny Regice, or Shiny Registeel!
No Skarmory, sadly.
