Pokemon GO Flygon (Max CP 2458) is one of the strongest additions in Generation III, mostly due to its potential to counter Electric types and good weather and move coverage.
Flygon can be built into two ways:
- double Ground moves for excellent Electric counter operations
- anything with Dragon Claw Dragon (3 bar) for multiple viable matchups
The Flygon family line starts with Trapinch, a pure ground type, that gains dual ground dragon typing upon evolving into a Vibrava, a first of its kind to have this typing.

Flygon in the Pokémon GO meta
Flygon has an unique advantage over existing popular Dragon types — it trades their traditional dual for Ground typing, leaving only a few counter vulnerabilities.
Unlike Kingdra, Flygon is actually a reasonably powerful addition to the game, especially with Dragon Claw, a magically useful 3 bar Dragon type move. Immunity to Electric type and no increased damage from Rock makes it a very powerful addition.
Flygon best moves and movesets in Pokémon GO
Best moveset: Dragon Tail / Dragon Claw or Mud Shot / Earthquake
Flygon has access to the following moves:
- Dragon Tail Dragon
- Mud Shot Ground
- Dragon Claw Dragon (3 bar)
- Earthquake Ground (1 bar)
- Stone Edge Rock (1 bar)
With two strong, STAB powered, quick moves, Flygon quickly becomes a dominant force in the budget Rock and Electric counter category. We can’t decide between Mud Shot and Dragon Tail, as both are viable and good moves.
Charged moves are a similar story: use either Dragon Claw or Earthquake and avoid Stone Edge (better users are already available), focus on picking the correct moveset for whatever you’re missing in your current line up.
