With 2024 looming to a close, it’s time to look ahead and take a wild guess at what 2025 could bring! We already know Unova Tour is coming to Los Angeles, New Taipei City, and globally, but what else could we hope to look forward to?

While nothing is yet officially announced, there have been some recent mentions in the game masterfile for two new Adventure Effects, Freeze Bonus and Slow Bonus. Their Signature Moves Ice Burn for White Kyurem and Freeze Shock for Black Kyurem have also been added to the GMF. We believe these could hint at Black and White Kyurem finally getting officially released in Pokémon GO (after their accidental release in December 2023).
With Kyurem hailing from the Unova region, these could be announced for a later release for Unova Tour as the big raid boss of the weekend, or they could wait until GO Fest 2025! These would be a very welcome addition to the game, and would make for very popular raids during a big event weekend.
We’ve had quite the focus on Galar the last few months of 2024, and that could easily continue into 2025. Two Galar Pokémon were seen teased in the Gigantamax promo video, so it seems fairly safe to say we could see them debut early in 2025!
Bliplug is a pure Bug type, but when it evolves into Dottler, and later Orbeetle it gains a secondary Psychic typing. Gigantamax Orbeetle was shown in the Gigantamax trailer, so fingers crossed it means a new family coming to GO, as well as a Gigantamax! It has an incredible flying saucer inspired design, one that will make AR photographers wish they could photograph Gigantamax Pokémon even more.

Gigantamax Alcremie was the other Gigantamax Pokémon from Galar teased in the video, and it is another Pokémon with some interesting aspects to it that makes it tricker for Pokémon GO. Milcery is a pure Fairy type Pokémon based on a splash of cream, that evolves into Alcremie. Alcremie is where things get interesting! In the main series games evolving into Alcremie involves a variety of different actions that involve spinning (yes, spinning) in specific ways at specific times, for specific lengths of times. According to Bulbapedia this is how Milcery evolves into each Alcremie form:
- Vanilla Cream Alcremie after spinning clockwise for less than 5 seconds during the day.
- Ruby Cream Alcremie after spinning counterclockwise for less than 5 seconds during the day.
- Matcha Cream Alcremie after spinning clockwise for less than 5 seconds at night.
- Mint Cream Alcremie after spinning counterclockwise for more than 5 seconds at night.
- Lemon Cream Alcremie after spinning clockwise for more than 5 seconds at night.
- Salted Cream Alcremie after spinning counterclockwise for less than 5 seconds at night.
- Ruby Swirl Alcremie after spinning counterclockwise for more than 5 seconds during the day.
- Caramel Swirl Alcremie after spinning clockwise for more than 5 seconds during the day.
- Rainbow Swirl Alcremie after spinning in either direction for more than 10 seconds during the evening.
That makes 9 different forms of Alcremie to hunt for, but Gigantamax Alcremie can Gigantamax regardless of form, and looks the same no matter what.

The final unreleased but teased Gigantamax form is Kingler! While we’ve had Dynamax Krabby, there’s been no sign of Gigantamax Kingler yet, but it seems set to be a release in the coming months.

We don’t have many Mega Pokémon left to release, and the speed with which they are released has slowed to a crawl, but Mega Gallade may be coming soon!
Eagle-eyed trainers have noticed recently that Gallade now has the Mega Evolution button below their Power Up button, which is usually a hint that they are due for a release in game.
The other Mega Pokémon left to debut in GO include Mega Sharpedo, Mega Camerupt, Mega Audino, Mega Metagross, Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. Unless Mega Mewtwo is the 2025 GO Fest release, 2025 doesn’t look set to be their year, but the other four have good potential to also debut in 2025 to slowly finish off the Mega Pokédex and move onto Dynamax and Gigantamax.
There are a lot of Pokémon still not yet in GO from regions that may surprise you! We’ll cover each region individually, with just some of the unreleased Pokémon mentioned.
Kalos
With the potential for a Kalos Tour in 2026, there are still Pokémon from the Kalos region that are not available in Pokémon GO!
Aegislash is a huge fan favourite of the Kalos region, and is a dual Steel and Ghost type with a massive defense stat of 291! It has two forms, Shield and Blade forme, with it changing to the Blade forme when using a damaging move. It changes back to the Shield forme when it is switched out from battle, or when using an item called the King’s Shield. With form changing now starting to appear in game thanks to Morpeko, the Aegislash family finally have potential for a release in Pokémon GO.
The other missing Kalos Pokémon is Volcanion, a Fire and Water type Mythical Pokémon. It is currently the only Pokémon with that particular dual typing make it truly unique! Volcanion seems less likely to get a 2025 release with it being a Mythical, but it could potentially feature in a special research for GO Fest 2025.
Alola
There are a lot of Pokémon from the Alola region that aren’t in GO still, and I do think some of these have great potential for a release in 2025. In terms of Pokémon with no evolutions we have the following:
Both Wishiwashi and Mimikyu both have form changes. Wishiwashi has the ability Schooling that allows it to change from Solo Form to School Form in battle depending on their HP level. Mimikyu changes from the Disguised Form into Busted Form when it is hit by an attack. Like Aegislash, with form changing debuting in GO in 2024, there is a much higher chance we will see more of in in 2025. And we all know we have been crying out for Mimikyu at Halloween for many years now!
Pyukumuku is a pure Water type known as the Sea Cucumber Pokémon, and Dhelmise is a dual Ghost and Grass type known as the Sea Creeper Pokémon. Neither evolve or have other forms, so they are ready to release in game at any point.
Minior is a Rock and type Pokémon, and it has a whole host of different forms: Red Core, Orange Core, Yellow Core, Green Core, Blue Core, Indigo Core, and Violet Core. These changes are purely a colour change that impacts how Minior looks, and has no effect on form, stats etc.
When Minior’s HP is below half, it changes from Meteor Form to a form where its core is exposed, which is when you can see the different colour cores that represent the colours of the rainbow.
Type: Null is a Normal type Legendary Pokémon that evolves into Silvally. These Legendary Pokémon also present a bit more of an unusual issue, with Silvally able to change form and typing due to it’s ‘RKS System’, which is an ability only Silvally has. With form changing coming to GO Niantic may be working on Silvally behind the scenes to figure out a way to bring it to the game, but it definitely presents a tricky challenge for how to go about the type changes.
There are a host of other Pokémon from Alola that aren’t available as well as those named, including the Mythical Pokémon Zeraora and Magearna, and Ultra Necrozma. Ultra Necrozma makes Dawn Wings and Dusk Mane Necrozma not look OP, so it doesn’t seem likely to be released just yet, and releasing Mythicals usually requires a special reason. Magearna has two different forms, and the Original Colour Magearna is only available in Pokémon HOME currently for trainers who have completed the Pokédex up to Eternatus. I don’t think we’ll be seeing it any time soon in Pokémon GO!
Galar
There are a lot of Pokémon from Galar unreleased in GO at the present time, and outside of those featured in the Gigantamax promo, there are some very exciting ones!
Corviknight is featured in the new Pokémon GO loading screen, so is almost a dead cert for release this season! Corviknight is the final evolution of Rookidee, the Route One Pidgey-esque bird of the Galar region. Rookidee is a pure type, known as the Tiny Bird Pokémon. And it really is tiny at only 20cm tall. Rookidee evolves into Corvisquire, the Raven Pokémon. When Corviquire evolves into Corviknight it gains a second typing of Steel. Corviknight is also known as the Raven Pokémon, and it is actually used as a taxi in the Galar region!
Galar took an interesting approach to Fossil Pokémon, with all of them themed to be mismatched creatures based on incorrectly assembled fossils. This is based on a period of time known as the ‘Bone Wars’, or the ‘Great Dinosaur Rush’, in which palaeontologists became so competitive with each other that it led to many species being wrongly identified, fossils being destroyed, and even sabotage between them!
In the Galar region the fossils have been juggled together to create four different fossils that are reminiscent of each other, creating four new Pokémon. Two are Water types with different secondary typings, while the other two are Electric types with different secondary typings. They are a mixture of Ice and Dragon secondary types, and have quite striking designs. With Adventure Week feeling a bit of a flop in 2024, the debut of the Galar Fossils could return Adventure Week to its former glory for 2025!
Paldea
Most of Paldea remains unreleased so far, so there are plenty of options for release in 2025, but the one I am sure is coming ASAP is:
Featured in the current season loading screen is Fidough! Fidough was a huge hit when Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were released, in part because of their punny bread-based name! Fidough is a Fairy type known as the Puppy Pokémon, and it evolves into the equally punny Dachsbun, the Dog Pokémon. We’ve also had a teaser on social media showing Fidough’s adorable little bread puppy legs, so it looks like it is coming sooner rather than later!
Community Days may seem some major changes in 2025, as we have quite quickly run out of Starter (First Partner) Pokémon to feature!
With the Alolan starters having featured in 2024, that means we should be moving onto Galar, but it feels quite early to have Sobble, Grookey and Scorbunny debut as shiny! I actually think that potentially we might skip Galar entirely, and go straight to Paldea with that being the order they were originally released in game. A year without any of the starters would be quite controversial, but with us quickly catching up to the main series, we also might need to consider a year without them featured.
If they do feature, they do have some fantastic shiny families!

Controversial to say, but if we do skip Galar and head to Paldea, it would be a major switch up for sure! The Paldean First Partner Pokémon have been so popular, that these would be a smash hit for sure. Could we see them kicking off 2025 with a bang?

One of our 2024 predictions that didn’t come to fruition, was Pikipek Community Day. It still feel very much like a Pokémon that deserves a Community Day, so let’s bring it back for our 2025 predictions!

We’ve had a few Community Days featured around Pokémon with multiple forms, like Slowpoke and Ponyta, so why not Meowth? Meowth would be a great stardust grind with it reward extra dust when caught, and it has 3 different forms! Kanto, Alolan and Galarian Meowth could all feature together, making this a particularly unique Community Day with 3 different shinies families to hunt.

On that theme, we could also start to look at Pokémon with Hisuian forms, such as Voltorb and Growlithe, both of which have excellent shinies in both their Kanto and Hisuian forms!
New Character
I believe that 2025 will bring more new characters to Pokémon GO! We have Professor Willow, the Team Leaders, GO Rocket members, Rhi and Mateo, but there have been hints at other characters in recent anniversary art that may come to GO eventually.
The sixth anniversary art that featured who we now know as Mateo, also featured another character walking with Spark. There have been hints of an NPC known as ‘Mia’ in the game masterfile, but we don’t know yet what their role will be within Pokémon GO.

The 8th anniversary art also saw an appearance from Team Yell, the villain team in Pokémon Sword and Shield. With a recent focus on Galar, could Team Yell be introduced as an alternative to Team GO Rocket with a new battle system of some kind? It would certainly be fun to see more characters from the main series game in GO.
2024 saw a bumper range of new features released, and 2025 looks set to be no different with more Gigantamax Pokémon on the horizon, and Unova Tour to look forward to.
What Pokémon do you hope to see debut in Pokémon GO in 2025? Let us know on social media!
