Dark Flames Event Guide

Trainers, a new event is looming in Pokémon GO, the Dark Flames event. Challenge Dark and Fire type Pokémon, and enjoy the debut of two brand new Pokémon, Turtonator and Mega Sableye.

‘Roaring flames to your left, an endless tunnel to your right, will you fan the fire? Or will darkness consume you?’

Event Bonuses

Pokemon Encounter icon Turtonator makes their debut in Pokémon GO, and can be shiny!
Pokemon Encounter icon Mega Sableye debuts in Mega Raids
Team Rocket icon Team GO Rocket grunts using Dark and Fire-type Pokémon will appear more frequently at Pokéstops and in balloons
XP icon Additional 25% XP for completing raids
Candy icon Three additional candies for completing raids
Candy XL icon Trainers level 31 and up will receive one additional Candy XL for completing raids
Research icon Timed research will be available to all trainers with a choice to pick either Fire or Dark paths
Incense icon Choosing the Fire-type path will mean attract more Fire-type Pokémon to incense (not including daily adventure incense)
Incense icon Choosing the Dark-type path will mean attract more Dark-type Pokémon to incense (not including daily adventure incense)

Pokémon Debuts

Turtonator Debut

Turtonator

Turtonator is a Generation VII Fire and Dragon type Pokémon, known as the Blast Turtle Pokémon. It will make their debut in the Dark Flames event, and will be available as shiny!

Mega Sableye Debut

Sableye (Mega)

Also making their debut via Mega Raids, is brand new Mega Pokémon Mega Sableye! It will be available as shiny from raids, and is a Dark and Ghost type Pokémon.

Featured Attack

During the event a new move will debut, Magma Storm. Magma Storm is the Signature move of Heatran, and is a Fire type Charged Attack. All Heatran caught during the event will know the move Magma Power.

Collection Challenge

A Dark Flames themed Collection Challenge will be available during the event. The type of Collection Challenge you get will depend on the Timed Research path you choose. Complete the Collection Challenge to earn 5,000 XP and 100 Mega Houndoom Energy.

Completing Stage 1 of the Dark Flames Timed Research and choosing a path will unlock a collection challenge based on your choice

One Star Raids

The following Pokémon will appear in one star raids:

Related raid guides: Sneasel, Scraggy, Darumaka and Deino.

Three Star Raids

Related raid guides: Alolan Marowak, Flareon, Umbreon and Turtonator.

Five Star Raids

Related raid guides: Heatran.

Heatran caught during the event will know the Charged Attack Magma Storm.

Mega Raids

Related raid guides: Mega Sableye.


Field Research Task Encounters

Special Dark Flames themed event field research will be available during the event. Complete them to earn encounters with the following Pokémon:

Dark Flames: Catch 5 Fire-type Pokémon
Dark Flames: Catch 5 Dark-Type Pokémon
Dark Flames: Win a raid in under 60 seconds
Dark Flames: Win 3 Raids Turtonator

Branching Timed Research

Dark Flames themed timed research will be available during the event. Trainers will be able to choose between paths focused on encounters with Fire and Dark type Pokémon. Complete the research to earn 15,000 XP, a Premium Battle Pass, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon.

If you choose the Dark path, Dark type Pokémon will be more attracted to your incense (excluding daily adventure incense).

If you choose the Fire path, Fire type Pokémon will be more attracted to your incense (excluding daily adventure incense).
