Festival of Lights event takes place from October 14 to October 17, 2022, and brings Morelull and Shiinotic to the world of Pokémon GO. Keep an eye out for illuminating Pokémon, as some Pokémon will glow at nighttime during this event!

Date and Time

  • Event icon Starts October 14, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. local time
  • Event icon Ends October 17, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. local time

Bonuses

  • XP icon 2x XP for Catching Pokémon
  • Candy icon 2x Candy for Catching Pokémon
  • Incense icon Incense activated during the event will last for 2 hours, and spawn event–specific Pokémon
  • Shiny icon You'll have an increased chance of encountering Shiny Chinchou!
  • General icon Morelull and Shiinotic, the Illuminating Pokémon, make their Pokémon GO debut
  • Shop icon Event-themed stickers will be obtainable by spinning PokéStops, opening gifts, or purchasing from the in-game shop

New Pokémon

Morelull and Shiinotic, the Illuminating Pokémon, debut in Pokémon GO during the Festival of Lights event. Both are Fairy and Grass-type Pokémon, and you need 50 Morelull Candy to evolve Shiinotic.

Shiny Morelull and Shiinotic will not be released during the Festival of Lights event.

Field Research

Timed Research

Complete the Festival of Light Timed Research, focused on catching Pokémon, to earn the Sparkler Pose for your avatar.

Stage 1

  • Catch 25 Pokémon – 25 Poké Balls
  • Hatch 2 eggs – Morelull encounter
  • Make 15 Nice throws – 20 Great Balls
  • Make 10 Great throws – 10 Ultra Balls
  • Make 5 curveball throws – 10 Pinap Berries
  • Use 10 berries to help catch Pokémon – Dedenne encounter

Stage rewards: Galarian Ponyta (s) encounter, 2500 XP

Stage 2

  • Catch 25 Pokémon – 25 Poké Balls
  • Walk 5 km – 3 Golden Razz Berries
  • Evolve 3 Pokémon – Chinchou (s) encounter
  • Make 10 Great Throws – 20 Great Balls
  • Spin 25 PokéStops or Gyms – 3 Silver Pinap Berries
  • Take snapshots of 10 different wild Pokémon – Litwick encounter

Stage rewards: Sparkler Pose, 2500 XP
