With updates, activities, events, and more coming out every single week in Pokémon GO, we thought it was about time to take a look at this week, and how it stacks up with what we have seen in previous years. TWIPGH, or “This Week in Pokemon GO History,” is a series on GO Hub that takes a look at this calendar week from 2019 to 2016.

Week 23 of 2019
This week in Pokémon GO saw the return of Adventure Week, a new Community Day, a Legendary Lunch Hour, and a major update in the Pokéstop Nomination feature!
Adventure Week 2019
From June 4th to June 11th, Trainers could enjoy the return of Adventure Week. Rock-types appeared more frequently in the wild, together with the introduction of Shiny Lileep, Anorith, and Onix! Raids also featured Rock-types, as well as Field Research Tasks. To top that, bonuses such as 4x Buddy Candy and 10x XP for new Pokéstop spins were in effect. If that wasn’t enough, Trainers could receive a reward of 50.000 Stardust and 15 Rare Candies for reaching the 50km threshold! Did you manage to get a new Shiny? June’s Community Day featured the Slacker Pokémon, Slakoth! All around the world, Trainers could enjoy increased Slakoth Spawns, with the chance to encounter a Shiny Slakoth! In addition, 1/4 Egg hatch distance was in effect, as well as 3 hour Lure Modules. If you evolved your Vigoroth during the event window, Slaking could learn the exclusive Move Body Slam!
Trainers in Europe faced some troubles when the Weather System went down. Niantic acknowledged this, and announced the return of Slakoth later this Summer.
Legendary Lunch Hour
Niantic announced 4 Legendary Raid Hours in June, happening every Wednesday evening. On June 5th, Trainers could expect a plethora of Cresselia Raids from 6pm to 7pm local time. Trainers could even encounter a Shiny Cresselia!
Pokéstop Nominations Germany
Pokéstop Nominations have gone live in Germany and parts of France! While still in beta testing, this is a major step to the global release of the Pokéstop Nomination feature. After Denmark, Germany is the 2nd European country that gets added to the beta test.
Week 23 of 2018
In 2018, this week saw the return of the Water Festival, an exciting discovery and the announcement of a new feature!
Water Festival 2018
From June 7th to June 21st, Trainers could enjoy the return of the Water Festival. Water-types appears more frequently in the wild, and in 2km Eggs. For catching Water-types, you got rewarded with 3x catch Stardust, as well as the chance to encounter Shiny Shellder! Hatching Eggs rewarded you with 2x Hatch Candy and Stardust. Field Research Tasks also featured Water-type Pokémon, as well as Raids. Kyogre also returned to Raids, with the chance of encountering its Shiny form! Trainers who were on the lookout for a Ditto, could find them in the form of Remoraid.
Apple announced ARKit 2.0, the newer version of their AR framework that powers Pokémon GO’s AR+ mode on iOS. This new update included improved face tracking, realistic rendering, 3D object detection, and more! This sure was a big update for the future of AR in Pokémon GO!
Smack Down Sound Effect in APK Mine
In addition to the findings of Smack Down in the APK files, data miners managed to get their hands on the sound effect of Smack Down, which hinted to a release very soon. As you all know, this Move was introduced on the Larvitar Community Day in July, 2018.

This week in 2017, Niantic announced a plethora of happenings in light of Pokémon GO’s 1st Anniversary.
Pokémon GO Fest Announcement
Niantic announced the celebration of Pokémon GO’s 1 year anniversary this week! A Solstice Event was announced, together with more details on the Gym Rework. On top of that, Pokémon GO Live Events were announced, such as GO Fest in Chicago and other events in Europe.
